So I'm thinking about buying a 2DS LL (orange and white) as apposed to a 2DS XL. How do I follow the homebrew and CFW Luma guide, will the system brick if I follow the American guide, and how hard is it to change the language/region?
Also if I change the region/language before I start the Homebrew tutorial will this cause my system to brick?
I'm not worried about the eShop (because it's gone) but if there's a way to play online that would be nice.

Thanks for your time and your help!

It's not hard at all. Start by using the '3DS Hacks Guide' and after you get it hacked use the 'Region Changing' part of the guide to change the region/language.

Also if I change the region/language before I start the Homebrew tutorial will this cause my system to brick?
Follow the guide, and by the end, you'll have Homebrew tools installed (FBI, Checkpoint, Anemone, etc) and the ability to install games.

I've played online after changing the region without any problems.

I believe they are the same once you install CFW, better buy the one that is more economical for you, unless of course, you fancy Japanese stuff.
Here is a link from 10s google search.

Just read it and gauge the difficulty yourself.

IMO its looks like a 1-hour job for me.

Just backup your NAND and I believe you can restore back with GodMode9.

will the system brick if I follow the American guide,
The cfw installation process is universal.
and how hard is it to change the language/region?
You can't change the language of a Japanese 3ds to different languages (sadly), you'd need to do a region change in order to have the home menu & system settings etc. in English (or other language).
But if you only want your games to display the language that you want (like say English), a Japanese 3ds will display the language that you want, as long as the version of the game (like NA release) you're trying to play has it. That also means once you install cfw you can play games from all regions, just something to keep in mind.
Also if I change the region/language before I start the Homebrew tutorial will this cause my system to brick?
You can't do a region change before installing Luma3DS. Still, you should install cfw, do a nand backup of your original Japanese nand, then do the region change (if you want).
