Interesting, I'll check it out. I'm surprised developers would send early copies of games for review to a site that promotes the use of flashcarts, though.
GBATemp doesn't actively promote anything, we just allow our users to discuss anything they want to talk about as long as it's legal. We have a great userbase that loves video games and is very passionate about them - that's the demographic developers would want to talk to. As for flashcarts, they don't automatically lead to piracy - it's the user's choice to break the law. A flashcart is like a knife - having one doesn't mean you're going to stab someone, some people just use them to slice bread. :P
Yes, it does not affect the field of view, but it affect the possibility of seeing something.
Actually, in this case, I find more of a problem the actual resolution, and not so much the size.
There are many features that in the original game you could clearly see in the far distance and kind of recognize, and they made you want to explore that weird thing (I find that part of the charm of Xenoblade).
That is lost because of resolution, now, just instead of let's say 20x20 pixels of better rendered recognizable image, you get the same in a 10x10 zone with poor quality that makes it difficult to recognize.
The size can also be a problem, when it is too small for your eyes to actually recognize things, but in this case it is a resolution problem.

Oh, whatever, I tried to write my point in a clear way, but I think the text came out horrible... I hope it is understandable.
Resolution is a bigger problem here, yes - it does make objects visibly less detailed and, coupled with the smaller screen, makes objects harder to spot. That said, the crux here is the depth of view - a stronger platform tends to push the horizon further hence the stronger platform or the better optimized game will give you a better chance of seeing objects in the distance.

That's true, you could use it to store all of your legally purchased games on one cart so you only have to carry one with you, and not risk losing or damaging the original carts.

Speaking of flashcarts, though, do you happen to know if Xenoblade Chronicles can be backed up and played on the Gateway or Sky3DS flashcarts? :)

I have no idea since the cartridges aren't out yet. Ryu got a digital review copy, probably for logistics reasons. :)

Actually theres a theory that Xenoblade might inly be using 50% of the N3DS's power due to poor code tranlation from single-core to quad-core. This is likely the reason the game took some hits and runs with some framerate drops.

Due to the timing of its release, I find it likely that Xenoblade Chronicles is encrypted with New 3DS-specific keyslot 0x18, which is from 9.5.0-22X. If so, this would make it probably compatible with current EmuNANDs, for the pirates here who're interested.

Due to the timing of its release, I find it likely that Xenoblade Chronicles is encrypted with New 3DS-specific keyslot 0x18, which is from 9.3.0-XX. If so, this would make it probably compatible with current EmuNANDs, for the pirates here who're interested.

There's a comparison. The textures ate higher quality and a the pixels look smoother and it's more colorful.

Xenoblade confirmed for round pixels

For the non assholish reply, they actually downgraded the textures (VRAM is the culprit I guess?), and probably removed the postprocessing (i'd bet more on them removing color grading than retouching the textures and changing the hue)

Especially obvious on the faces and the scene where Shulk takes the monado. I'd have to see it in person to see how notorious it is on a XL but if we're consider how shitty looking the Wii version was I doubt it will be much of a downgrade :P

More like spreading butter... most of the time we already own legal copies. We buy the hardware. We do our best to support. But sometimes you just need to rescue a corrupt save, and all hell breaks loose.

Actually theres a theory that Xenoblade might only be using 50% of the N3DS's power due to poor code translation from single-core to quad-core. This is likely the reason the game took some hits and runs with some framerate drops.

It's surprising how low resource consuming most games are. Occasionally the 3D will bring things to a crawl (Pokemon) and yet their cutscenes avoid any 3D. So the N3DS does offer that little "oomph" needed, but again, ports are going to drop in quality. I bet they patch it a few months after they clean up code and let the cores do their thing.

I've been playing Icarus on my old 3DSXL with my Sky3DS and had several moments where I thought "this was released too early". They really intended that one for the N3DS. Especially with the 2nd thumpad and trigger buttons. I bet it doesn't even dent the N3DS...

I wonder how the new DSTWO+ will handle all those cores and mem?? Will we finally be able to play higher emu versions of arcade games? That would be awesome...

When I first got my 3DSXL to play Zelda LBW I was shocked because I was expecting more of a N64 environment. Then they started porting over N64 titles and I realized that the 3DSXL was capable of more than I anticipated.

I'm still shocked there's no BT on N3DSXL. That was a deal-breaker for me.

Does this mean they're using a lightweight version of Dolphin? Essentially making the N3DSXL a Wii (not a WiiU)?? Someone enlighten me...

all this from the guy whos made sky3ds use easier... which in no way can be justified as anything but a cart that enables piracy...(i.e. a cart that is only made for stabbing someone and doesn't work for buttering bread) XD

It simply butters bread less effectively. They could use the GW launcher to dump their carts and put only their own .3ds's on the thing.
