Are the game saves stored on the game cart, the internal memory or the SD card?

Because StreetPass allows you to exchange you game data with other people, even if you don't have that game in your 3DS at the time, but every cartridge based console and handheld has built in memory designed for save data.

They will be stored on the internal memory I think. Yet again, this is only speculation.

good question.

It looks like saves are stored on the system.
Iwata talked about being able to expand the internal memory with any size sd card. Meaning SD cards become additional internal storage somehow.
I would guess after wii and dsi problems with sd cards they will finally have a solution.
The game saves are also the minigames for streetpass and you can assign any 12 minigames you own to streetpass.
If the game saves to the gamecard then this would not work.
