I have an old PS2 Phat that runs, but wont play any discs. I heard Swap Magic can help load backups, but it requires discs. Is there anything I can do with this thing?

Man I forgot about freemcboot! Can I just use one of my own hard drives? And what is the network adapter for?

Network adapter is so you can connect a hdd to the ps2. You can use usb drives on ps2, but it's only 1.1, so it's slow and awful. With a fat ps2, network adapter + hdd is the best way to go. Official network adapter is ide, so you'll need to get an old ide drive or use an ide to sata adapter and a 2.5" drive (can't fit an adapter + 3.5" drive into the bay). You can also get third party network adapters now, that are native sata, opl did have some compatiblity issues with those at one point (I think it's fixed now) and most of the third party ones lack the ethernet port as well.

For drives, generally any drive will do. The exception being western digital on the ide network adapter. It'll work, but you have to mod the adapter slightly.

I confirm that it works perfectly, it's been 6 years for me, plus it allows me to have my drive dvd player almost new, and shorten loading times, thank you sony for the adapter, yes I have the official, better quality than Chinese copies
