So I'm kind of looking into getting a Vita again, now that there's actually some RPGs for it, and on top of that you can pretty much get any PS1/PSP game working on it. Back when I first had one, the only RPG worth playing was P4 Golden (which was so worth it, regardless).

Now, I'm kind of pissed I sold it for so cheap when they're still going for $150 now.....

Annnnnnyway.... I'm kind of at a standstill here. I don't have the cash quite yet, but I was researching it and discovered that for the most part both the original model and slim variant Vitas go for around the same price. However, it would seem that the "Blast from the Past" deal is the best way to go, with the original model that comes with two games and a memory card. Is the slim even worth it? From what I read, there don't seem to be any improvements and they actually skimped on the materials for the front screen, and it's no longer a vibrant OLED screen that the original had.

I'd say slim. I wanted to get a gen 1, but multiple things didn't appeal to me. For one, the proprietary charging port was replaced by a universal micro usb port. Which is infinitely better.

It feels better in the hands, but that depends on the person. But most people like the slim more when reading reviews about it.

The screen is worse, but, whatever. OLED is nice and all but I wouldn't go too crazy about it. OLED should be saved for TV's, not gaming devices in my opinion..but whatever you like more.

I believe the Slim has better battery life. I was sort of sold their myself. Even through I did get a brand new new one for 80 bucks on ebay by accident..lol.

Lighter, obviously. People say the old one weighted people down.

That's all I have to say about it. I'd just go by pricing, and I've noticed the older ones go for cheaper these days.

Based on pricing alone, that bundle pack is a better deal, but if like you, I found one on the cheap like that, I'd go for it. I had forgotten the USB port and weight, though frankly that didn't make a big difference to me anyway. Battery life is a good factor, though.... hmmm.... Guess I'll nab whatever's cheaper.

I have two OLEDs and one Slim and I would say I prefer the OLED. It feels much more premium. If I would rate the screens of OLED and Slim from 1 to 10 I would give the OLED a 10 and the Slim a 7.

oled gives a better image. plus if you get a gen 1 wifi edition you can do a second battery mod for triple the battery life.

I own both and you cannot mock the OLED as it is nice but then the slim has features that the old dude doesn't have.

Such as?
It's all about personal preference, i'm not bothered in the slightest when it comes to the charging cable of the gen 1 vita. It's like saying you're bothered by the fact your 3ds can only be charged with the charger you need from nintendo, in my opinion.
The 1gb internal storage? negligible, nice if you run henkaku and you want to plant your roms for emulators there, but other than that, there's little use for it if you're using a memory card anyway.

1 hour battery life longer on slim is better, I suppose, but I have never run into any trouble with me gen 1 so far when it comes to battery.

to the OP:
If you have the opportunity in any way to check both versions out, go do that and see what you like more.

I paid £100 for a brand new OLED + 32GB memory card. Came on 1.61 FW, i upgraded straight to 3.60. Never looked back. I did however have a slim before the OLED days before and i sent the slim back to the shop. The screen is just awful compared.

I have both and prefer the slim better , can charge it anywhere with no problem , lighter and more comfort when handling it and better battery life( even though I didn't test the battery life myself)

good time for you to get one, because Henkaku XD ..

if you have the original vita's over there ,then get that one because it is overall better quality.
feel in the hand and the materials used, plus the OLED screen.

but the slim is good too, i have the slim because we didnt have the original vita's , the lcd of the slim is great too.

you cant go wrong with either of the two.
