Hi, is it possible to have multiple ROMs of the same game on a Gateway without it only seeing one? For instance, if I took a Pokemon X scene dump, copied it twice, and changed the headers of the copies to two different headers, would I be able to choose any of the three with my Gateway? Or would it just give me an error? And will this work with .3dz ROMs too?

It's kind of a pain swapping out .3ds or .3dz ROMs everytime I wanted to play with a different save.

It will see every ROM you put on it. But as mentioned before card1 games will have shared save files.

Its possible to convert card1 games to card2 by changing some info in the header, which would solve the save conflict problem.

But it'd still read from the single save, I believe. So that wouldn't do anything, correct?
Each rom would have its own seperate save, stored inside the rom itself. Instead of it just saving to the big SD and possibly causing save/load issues

I don't think that's a set thing though. Yes, it's that way for card2 games, but I don't think you can simply change the header to 'force' it to save to the rom. I'm sure there's a LOT more code that goes into the game to enable it to save to the rom, itself. Hex editing a single value won't change that.

it does :P, just change the card type and the writable region offset and bingo you have a card2 game that saves to the rom like any other card 2 game

yeah i originally did it just messing about and it worked, so i shared it with the guy on maxconsole as he wasn't able to get his gateway save chip working so he could only play card2 games, i had originally asked 3dsguy to implement a automatic card 2 converter into 3dsexplorer so i dint make any tutorial or anything, but the guy who i helped with it made one anyway.....probably for the best as 3dsguy left the scene like a week later anyway, i think snailface has said he is going to make a lil app to automate the process so its not manually hex editing each game and calculating offsets :ha:

tbh the only real use i seen it having was for people who had SPI issues on the gateway card as this is a nice bypass for that, but i suppose it could be used like this as well for people who want multiple copies of the same game with separate saves

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
