Haven't tried this patch yet, but I'd guess Katakana mode only romanizes the names of the Pokemon. For example, Typhlosion's original name is Bakufun, so in-game you'd see Bakufun. I've patched the rom, the translation work (ex: examine, bag etc...), but when I save the music continue but the save never finish.
EDIT: I notice I got a blue screen with Japanese message the first time I bottom the game, like a corrupted save before the first game. :/
