Press Release
Detachable Controllers Reinvent Gaming

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In an introductory video released today, Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

That, or Nintendo knows more than you. My money's on the latter.
My comment was in reference to the 3DS screen scratching issue which happens to some extent on all 3DS consoles except the 2DS. And I've never seen a used GBA SP without scratches all over the bottom half caused by the top repeatedly closing. So yeah, can't really trust them in that department.

Of course that's why it's like that. As I've mentioned before, the difference between a conventional D-pad, and four independent buttons is purely cosmetic, the function and internal hardware is exactly the same:

Also, you have that teeny-tiny d-pad on the top right of the switch controller - probably for playing a Minish Cap port?

pretty sure that is the plus button, but who cares about a d-pad, the better question is do the joycons have their own set of L and R top trigger buttons

Heres what I think about the difference between portable and home console mode
if we take for example, the game skyrim
My guess is that in home console mode, it will play it with max graphics setting, while in portable console mode, it will play at like medium/high graphics quality setting
what do you think, would it be realist?

Eh, depends on how you use it. I personally used the elbow of my thumb (or whatever you want to call it) to more quickly move between directions on a d-pad, something not possible with most independent buttons. I could never play d-pad dependent playstation games quite as well as I could with d-pad dependent super nintendo games.

But the pro controller has a proper d-pad, so there's no reason to complain for anyone =]

Cmon ppl!!!!!!!!

Whats going on??????????

Power and on par or even stronger than PS4/X0 (big bet for an tablet/hybrid), backward compatibility (big bet if uses a completely different architecture), thunderbolt, OLED, VR, and on top of it, all that for 300 - 400$ price range?!?!?!?

SERIOUSLY? Dont expect too much, you will be disappointed. Cmon, Nintendo doesnt even put cheap triggers on their controllers......

COMPROMISES are being made....

Really, its perfect for ppl who want 2in1 but others who want a real home console (with more horse power) would be a little bit disappointed. I mean, they might end up buying it but .........
Where were you in the last decade? You actually expected Nintendo to make a console PS4/XBONE like when they have themselves said that they do their own thing? Come on, man. If you want a powerful consile enough to blow up your TV, get a Scorpio.

It's pretty much exactly what was leaked. I'm surprised that they actually did go with NVidia rather than AMD as usual, but not by much - AMD and ARM rarely go together. As for the choice of a custom Tegra, it'll be the console's undoing when it comes to the games portfolio as the Switch is left in the dust behind the PS4 and the Xbox One, let alone the Pro or the Scorpio, unless there's something interesting inside that dock that we're not seeing.

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
