Hardware New 3ds XL wont charge or turn on

I recently got a New 3ds XL from a friend and everything seems fine with it but for some reason it wont hold a charge or turn on. They said that one day it just stopped working so they put it away. This is how the charger port looks like. Am I screwed or is the problem really simple?

The problem could be a blown fuse or a damaged charging IC inside the console. If you can, check if the battery from this 3DS works in another working 3DS, and try to charge the battery in the working 3DS to see if the broken 3DS will turn on with a known fully charged battery.

So I was just messing around with it a second ago and now when I charged it without the battery it turns orange but it doesnt seem to charge the battery when I put it in so I'm sure it's a problem with the battery.

Hey, you can see if your battery contacts are gold or damaged (discolored. Dont leave your 3DS on charge without time caution. The battery is probably overcharged from excessive hours and it will not charge anyone. Find a good replacement battery but try to avoid 3rd party batteries on sale.
