I'm curious as to what kind of setup everyone else out there has.

Here's what I'm running:
- N3DS w/ 9.0.0 sysNAND
- MSET exploit
- Gateway CFW w/ 9.0.0 emuNAND
- All backups converted to CIA
- Ninjhax CIA on emuNAND
- NTR CFW 2.2 on retail Cubic Ninja for the SaveManager plugin

With this setup I can use my N3DS without my Gateway card for the most part, in order to save battery life, I can boot into Gateway mode without Cubic Ninja, I can access homebrew through Ninjhax without constantly switching my Cubic Ninja save, and finally I can use NTR's save manager plugin to restore all of my saves to my retail carts.

Does anyone have a better setup? Any suggestions for mine?

(I hope you don't refer to CFW setups specifically, or else this post would be awkwardly unfitting :S)
ALBW Limited Edition 3DS XL
sysNAND: 4.5 (downgraded)
emuNAND: 9.7 (latest)
Backups:
Some installed as .cia to use the internal SD Card space;
Some others as .3ds/.3dz on Gateway Card. (I don't want my whole library with me all the time, focussing on a smaller amount makes me enjoy my games more tbh)

I don't want a CFW because I don't need it^^
The Gateway Card rests in my 3DS almost all the time.

EDIT: Confused "relate" with "refer" ._. (not a native speaker)

Correct, I never use the Gateway flash card to play any games. I have converted all of my ROM's to CIA files.

Poorman's o3DS:
-o3DS 4.2 sysNAND
-AK2i AKAIO 1.9 With ROP Loader
-Trick CFW emuNAND 1
-rxTools 9.7 emuNAND 2

Still in the process of getting this together right now.

I like your multi emuNAND setup. I was thinking about doing that with rxTools and Gateway for decrypting xorpads, but I think that using decrypt9 through Ninjhax is my best bet since I would be having to swap Cubic Ninja saves.

I have two Main 3ds consoles.
N3ds xl with 9.0 sysnand, cubic Ninja for homebrew and oot3d with a GW for emunand (9.4 i think).
3ds xl 4.5 with 2.0 twl_firm, flashcard timewarp and cyclods ievolution.
I have an O3DS lying around and I can't figure out if I want to sell it or not. This sounds interesting, but is there any advantage to using a second console for a DS flash card?

I keep it nice and simple.

N3DS XL
-9.0 sysNAND
-MSET to launch emuNAND
-Gateway with 128gb SD

Black/Silver O3DS XL
-9.2 sysNAND
-Not much going on with this console, serves as a back-up unit.

And finally, my pride and joy:

White O3DS XL
-4.4 sysNAND
-MSET to launch emuNAND
-Borrow Gateway cart from N3DS when needed, all games/homebrew installed as CIA.

All 3 of these units are getting posted today for NAND access mods :yay:

My set-up:

O3DS XL;
Sysnand 9.2
Emunand 9.7 (RXmode/Gateway)

N3DS XL;
Sysnand 9.0
Currently no emunand (awaiting KARL3DS/Gateway to support emunand 9.7 so I could do a system transfer)
Ninjhax and Gateway (I don't need it anymore on my O3DS since I have RXtools doing the job just fine.)

Mine is:

- White N3DS on sysNAND 9.0
- MSET for emuNAND
- emuNAND 9.5 (on a 64GB mSD card - most of my games are .CIA for convenience)
- Gateway 3DS with 32GB mSD card (with games that can't be converted to .CIA)
- Cubic Ninja with the GW exploit still on it (not sure what to really do with it now...)

Works fine for me, I get great battery life and everything works how I want it to. The only thing I miss out on that I'd really like is Spiderhax, but AFAIK that's o3DS only. Most of my games I've had to download (yes, I own all of them, bar a couple) because I can't convert to .CIA myself. This setup works perfect for me, but if there's more to add to it, I'll give it a go. :P

Debating on setting up a non-region-swapped emuNAND for my US region carts using the multi-emuNAND tool.

... All backups converted to CIA

I used 3DS to CIA converter at "the max" (the one that requires python 1.5)

I want to know how you did THIS. I have a 4.5 o3DS and dumped my xorpads AND got the 7x key and all the other crap around it. Also got o3DS XL and a N3DS (currently running) But i still can't region free and convert Gundam the 3D Battle. And I can't find a CIA of this anywhere. (NOT asking WHERE to get it mind you) I got it to convert but the CIA gives me a black screen on launch. I "found" a converted CIA a user at a certain 3DS forum posted but It's not region free and gives an error that the game could not be started.....

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

  • Jayro @ Jayro:
The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
