You'll have to wait for gateways 9.2 support to come out. I've noticed that the update nag goes away after setting up and updating emunand

I have been wondering about this.. Some ppl here says it cant be updated if you dont push 'yes' button. Some says it can be updated through nintendo zone.. Anyone know how it really is? Mine has never been updated via nz. And i have passed nzones tens of times.. But i get paranoid about this anyway...

Updates can be auto downloaded to your system via NZ. You will still need to click on "yes" for the system to update. Once update has been downloaded there will be a pop up constantly asking you to update which is something you wouldn't want to do if you want to keep the exploit for gateway to work. Pop ups are annoying as hell and usually it leads to accidental update...

I thought update will only be downloaded if spotpass is enabled and internet connection is permitted but it seems like even if spotpass disabled and parental control setup the system will still auto download update if it connects to a NZ...Now I finally know why Nintendo removed the wireless switch from the New 3DS as it is the only way to prevent auto download of updates.

i'm sure we could stub out the app that sniffs for a system update, but maybe it would mean you couldn't update when you wanted to either :) (and have to do it manually from devmenu)

You don't understand. If you pass by a Nintendo Zone, the 3DS always gets free Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi = connection = update gets downloaded and you will get the nag screen. As has been said before, even if you get the nag screen at any point, the nag screen doesn't instantly update the system, there are two nag screens, one terms of service and one touch screen press required so the nag screen is only just annoying.

Guys if you disable spotpass from them internet menu in settings it doesn't download the update... I have mine with spotpass disabled... I let it once on sleep mode and got the notification that there was an update ready but after I restarted the system I never got the notification again which means that indeed with spotpass off you only get the notification over the internet without the update been downloaded to your system. I really don't understand how you leave spotpass enabled on your devices...

So did i get this straight : Even if you set up a WIFI connection and connect to internet but never put the console on sleep mode and disable Spot Pass Automatic Software Downloads It won't download updates. Am I correct? Because I'd like to connect to the internet. Also I'm moving back to my country tomorrow and there isn't Spot Pass there.

Guys I have my WiFi on all the time and connected to the internet all the time home cause I play a lot of mario kart 7 and kid icarus online. I have disabled spotpass and I never let my 3ds in sleepmode. I have never had anything downloaded on my 3ds.I did a test some days ago. I let my 3ds on sleep mode while connected to the internet with spotpass OFF, streetpass always ON.
After 1 min I saw the notification led flash and I opened my screen just to see a notification about updating my 3ds. I pressed cancel and then rebooted my 3ds. I have never had a notification to update since and I still have my wifi ON and connected with spotpass OFF.

From what I understand the way it works is this.
The 3ds can auto download the update only in sleep mode and only if you have spotpass ON. After this it will pop notifications for you to update the console randomly
If you have spotpass off and you let 3ds in sleepmode with wifi on it will just get the notification over the internet without downloading the update to your system though. Which means that if you decline and reboot you won't receive the notification again unless you go on sleep mode again while connected to the internet.

Has anyone ever had his 3ds download an update with spotpass disabled?

the safest thing to do is to do a hardware mod and remove the wifi chip
If you have the nand mod there is no real reason to.worry as you can.always downgrade.....just turn the wifi off if your worried and switch it off when your not using the 3ds

@jimskeet yeah I even.skipped the t&c's you need to.accept before you can.even.enable spotpass on my n3ds and I still got the nag prompt from nintendo zone hotspots, only sure fire way to avoid it is keeping wifi off

Hi!

I've just managed to remove the "Update popup" from my 3DS by simply renaming a file on the 3DS SD card.
In my case, I'm on version 9.2.0-20E and I got the update after leaving the console in sleep mode on Saturday.

Today I did a search on the SD card (on my computer) looking for modified files dated on Saturday. The good news was that there were only three files modified that day, all the same time.
The files were the following:
  • F:\Nintendo 3DS\c700e9d4efe53c49f7d5d00e2d60ff4f\19d200c73110b71a3030303000284245\extdata\00000000\00000228\00000000\00000007
  • F:\Nintendo 3DS\c700e9d4efe53c49f7d5d00e2d60ff4f\19d200c73110b71a3030303000284245\extdata\00000000\000002ce\00000000\0000001a
  • F:\Nintendo 3DS\c700e9d4efe53c49f7d5d00e2d60ff4f\19d200c73110b71a3030303000284245\extdata\00000000\00000229\00000000\00000003
The biggest one (the first one, ~17.5MB) seemed to be the system update, since it was the one I renamed and made the popup disappear.

You can repeat the steps I did if you know when you downloaded the update or you can also test (under your own responsibility) to rename the same file as mine (if it exist on your system). If you rename the file you can always set it's name back to the original, or even better, make a backup of the whole SD before doing anything.

Hope it helps!

this is not the trick, the update get saved to nand, not the sdcard.
It wont show you the popup now because it only shows once in 24 hours ;)

Guys if you don't want your 3ds to download the update then just turn wireless off and never flip the switch again

If I were you, I'll resist myself from playing the 3DS, let it collect dust in the corner until Gateway releases their update. Should be soon. (I haven't touched my other 3DS for weeks...)
