But it sounds like he's playing games where ergonomics is less of an issue than convenience. I agree that over-buttoned mice are fundamentally stupid, but some people need such things. Besides, he has a RAT7 as an alternative.

Excessive Buttons on a mouse =/= convenience

In the long run he'll just suck more than a real MMO player. Better he avoid them now and not make it a habit of using them.

There is a Razer Naga MMO mouse with 17 buttons... priced £50-80.

The naga is one of the most uncomfortable mice I have ever had the misfortune to hold in my hands. Luckily, I have owned none of the 3 I have held.

If OP needs a good mouse with a ass-ton of buttons, the Logitech Wireless MX Revolution is great, and greatly discontinued. If you can manage to find one for the right price (back when I got mine it was a $100 mouse), I suggest you snatch it up.

And don't bother with that Steelseries WoW mouse with 15 buttons. I've read reviews claiming it to be complete and utter garbage.

OH WAIT. If oyu like the R.A.T.7, What about the M.M.O.7? http://store.gameshark.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=5247 It's got some extra buttons, but is otherwise the same mouse. Not sure if you're crazy about that since you'll be basically buying the same as what you have now, but + buttons, but if you love the R.A.T., this might work well then.

If the RAT7 doesn't have enough buttons, the MX Performance isn't going to either. That has 6 programmable buttons through the driver software (7 if you can also map the zoom button) - thumb front, thumb back, search, scroll left, scroll right, middle click, whereas the RAT7 has 5 - thumb front, thumb back, thumb left, thumb right, and middle click, and three different on the fly profiles for those buttons.

The G700, however... http://www.logitech....ming-mouse-g700

Edit - also notable is the G300, which will have 7 programmable buttons, since I'm already going on about Logitech - http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/gaming-mouse-g300
