Gaming Others Microsoft Starts Removing Ownership for Paid Apps

So you may have heard Sony's thing on removing Discovery content from the end of this year.
Microsoft has been doing the same thing (mostly for free apps) for months.
It's super sad in my opinion, to see classics like Crossy Road go away. Some of you may think that's okay, some games need to be delisted however that's not the case.
Check out Forza Horizon 3. You might think it's a nice game, blah blah blah... but you can't buy it. That's because it's delisted. Nobody can buy it anymore. However, previous purchasers can still download it.
Now see Geometry Dash. Wait. You can't see it?
Geometry Dash has been fully removed from the Microsoft Store. Completely. Nobody can get it, even those who purchased it (I lost my precious £1.69)
This is the problem. Geometry Dash is an XAP, meaning it's not just an AppX file like most Microsoft Store apps. It's encrypted, like an encrypted AppX. EAppX files are encrypted and can't be unless you own the game. However, oh. The game is gone. Even the owners can't get it. And this has been happening with tons, HUNDREDS of games.

No game I'm pretty sure, has ever been removed from Microsoft's servers to-date. You can use a storegen to get any game.

Ok i dug a little to understand your point of view but you read MS have answered you by those 3 reasons explicitely and the course of action if different and NOT IN THEIR HANDS. It;s better to contact the dev instead. MS Store is notorious for being crap why would you buy anything there?

• The app could have been removed by Microsoft due to policy violations.
• The developer might have chosen to remove the app.
• There could be compatibility issues with the app and the latest versions of Windows.

as someone that owns the game, you can easily redownload the game, however the dlc is nearly impossible to redownload unless you initiate a remote download via a direct link in a browser, since there's no "view the dlc" page for the game and the ultimate edition doesn't redownload it with the base game since it didn't come with the dlc

There’s 3+4 Ultimate edition with a store page.

the page for blizzard mountain and the hot wheels dlc aren'tdirectly accessible anymore you need a direct link, and the ultimate edition for 3 did not include the 2 expansion packs

2 won't work because some devs just forgot about the game.
1 won't work because they were following terms before, why would they not follow terms now?
3 instead of removing it, MS could have made a warning saying that the app was made for older devices. However that might be the reason.

Do you have Car Pass? I got 3+4 Ultimate edition onece the game was delisted since I was late, 2022. However Car Pass and Treasure map are non existent even though in the game is says 'FREE' but the store page is non-existent so lost lots of money.

if it was just because it was delisted i would be able to download it normally like the base game, when i download ultimate edition it does download the car pass
i never got the treasure map though, never felt like it was worth the money

I submitted a request to Forza however they do nothing. I spammed his the online servers don't work and they warned me.

StoreLib isn't risky, I don't get why MS thinks it's a virus. Even if you code some storegen yourself, 'you made some mistake that gives some hacker admin on in your PC.'

This is one reason digital sucks. Some people like to hunt for old games that they miss or just heard about. You can do that with physical there's no such thing as that with digital. The game industry has little to no respect for older games. Piracy for older games should not only be legal it should be encouraged.

I mean it's sorta okay for discontinued games, however the problem comes when it's paid and users can't even get it with a storegen because it's encrypted. Even piracy will not be enough as some pirated games don't have online capability.

That's also an issue but when it came to physical there was no such thing as a "discontinued game" What is wrong with someone wanting a 20 year old game and going to a used game store or going on Ebay and finding it? Game hunting is actually pretty awesome. But for digital they just go "well, the game is 4 years old so it's impossible anyone would ever want to play it again" That's stupid. To me most of the greatest games did not come out in the last 4 years. However with a game like Forza Horizon 3 I can sort of understand because there's a newer Horizon game that probably has most of the same stuff plus more.

First off. It it tons or hundreds of games? Secondly, Forza I get. But the more shovelware and mobile garbage like Crossy Road, Geometry Dash, and Hungry Shark Evo that gets removed the better.

Never liked the Windows Store (now called M$ Store) so this comes as no surprise. Sony, M$, Nintendo, Epic, Apple, Google, etc... Your purchases aren't safe.

It's really just long-term rentals.

I use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC and I honestly really like it, it's like 7 with a 10 skin.

However, Windows 11 can go f*ck off because that's god damn garbage and yeah, I tried it (even the debloated version sucked).



Going from 10 to 11 isn't an upgrade, it's a downgrade.

The moment Autodesk Suite and a few other things become easily compatible with linux, I would gladly switch to it. Fortunately codeweavers are working on that.
