UT doesn't need quake anymore, as it uses the open source ioquake3 engine, so it should be considered a standalone game.

You should add OpenArena. Think FreeDoom but for Quake 3. Tons of fun on or offline.

I must say that assaultcube is perfect when you are bored and just want a quick game with your mates, as it's only 19mb.

Albeit it's kinda biased towards the sniper rifle ¬.¬

Rising Eagle had boring gameplay and no players online. No thanks.

War Rock is pretty good but is more like a poor man's Counter Strike, so I'll just play CS:S instead.

Agreed. Warsow is very fun. One of the more original shooters.

As it seems like you are looking for a traditional shooter, Urban Terror should satisfy your needs. However, the graphics are just decent at best.
Still though, if you like games like Counter-Strike, UT is what you're looking for.

There's a new FPS coming out soon. It's in closed beta right now, but apparently you can find keys on fileplanet or something. It's called Combat Arms. Yeah... another one of these games. (Nexon: CombatArms, Ijji: SolderFront, and Softnyx: WolfTeam)

Battlefield Heroes looks pretty awesome, the only problem I had is that running/walking animations look a little naff.

Gunz has one of the worst communities ever. Almost everyone is an ego-whore.

It's a game that takes weeks to months and some years (and still aren't as good as the top) to get "pro" enough to clan war, and even then you are confronted with massive orders of eggos.

I have to say, Nexuiz runs on a *highly crappy* video card. I highly recommend it.

I find that International Gunz has a much better community, but I still prefer ijji since it has more features. Really though, it's not that hard to compete in clan wars, hell I used to do clan wars (with my own clan) at lvl 19, although admittedly I wasn't very good.

Not to mention that when the ijji servers was made available to play, 70% of all US players were slagging off non-US players to go play the international servers since they kept thinking it's for US people only.
