"The Last Hope" video game gets pulled from the Nintendo eShop amidst a copyright claim by Sony

lasthope.jpg

The surplus amount of indie and/or shovelware titles appearing on official storefronts has been in the uprising for the last decade. As more and more resources are easily available for people interested in the video game industry, it's no surprise that this has been the case.

While many have realized their dream game into a reality with the current tools at their disposal, others take inspiration from already existing titles to bring forth a new story with original characters. However, you can only take so much "inspiration" from a game before it borders into plagiarism, and this has been the one case for a title found in the Nintendo eShop, "The Last Hope: Dead Zone Survival".

The title found its way into the Nintendo eShop just like month, on June 30th, and many people took interested in the title due to some interesting resemblances to another published title by Sony. The promotional image for "The Last Hope" sees the main protagonist in company of a woman who highly resembles Ellie from "The Last of Us", down to the very same hair style, clothing and face, albeit with a lower quality than that seen in The Last of Us.

Outside of the resemblance with Ellie, the game has very little substance to even make it into the mediocrity level. The story boils down to a time travel concept of sending a soldier's conscience to the future to help with a zombie outbreak, but aside from the flat story, there's no voice acting; instead carrying over all plot/story points and dialogues through hefty text boxes and still images (which may or may not be AI generated), dull environments and awful models that make the game look like an early PS2 title in terms of visual quality due to the lack of proper lighting, almost no music at all, simplistic UIs and the gameplay itself leaves a lot to be desired.

After the game made its ways in social media, it quickly caught up and gathered attention, enough to make the rounds of Sony, to which the resemblance of Ellie with the character of "Eva/Eve" in "The Last Hope" was enough for them to take action and issue a copyright claim to it. The game's trailer has been taken down with the message "Video unavailable. This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC" (which has been reuploaded by other users given the original has been claimed).

Not only was the game's trailer pulled by Sony, but it seems like Nintendo has also removed the game from their own eShop, as well as all other instances or mentions of the game from their websites, with the original link for "The Last Hope" now redirecting to a 404 page. Most interestingly, prompting the link into the Wayback Machine gives out the message "Sorry. This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine."

Still no reason for Sony to get involved over nothing.
Its not defending its just stupid, and as i said, everyone has to start somehow.
You might not like it, but it hurts no one and helps them.
fan porjects are better than this, of course someone has to start somewhere but charging money for a game that is made full of stock objects from an engine and the game is terrible, gameplay, story, visuals and charging money from people for your experimentation while trying to pass it off as a knock off of a popular game is even more terrible, a school project is better than this.

the company wst connection limited that did this game does this for years on every game, all their games are the bare minimum full of stock objects from the engines and awful, there is no passion or even care on their games, they jsut want to trick people to pay for their games that are the wrost thing you ever saw.

Fully agree that this game is of very poor quality. Nintendo should have never allowed games with such poor quality on the shop. Infringing Sony's rights is on the other hand way off.
Post automatically merged:

That Nintendo seal of quality has never mean the game is good. It is a seal that means plugging it into your Nintendo console is not going to damage it. The manufacturing process of the hardware is in conformance to the Nintendo standard and indeed I have never been disappoint with the hardware being of bad quality until the joy con came along and spoil Nintendo's reputation.

3rd party game has always been risky buy on Nintendo platform and I suppose there is more junk than Sony and Microsoft combined.
Buy from Steam if you want to be sure of not buying a bad game.

The game is very low quality that Sony feared it could negativity impact its reputation. An average person would think it's related to ''the last of us "

Do you? Upon seeing that picture on OP I may have a better impression about the game because of my experience with The Last of Us but thinking that they are from Sony is very far from it.

Jealous sony taking down Nintendo exclusives.
Nintendo's "promise" of better third party games lmfao.

Nintendo are that cheap they dont even quality check the crap they allow into its store anymore.

Nintendo lack of Quality checks reminds me of the old Mr Muscle adverts, "Sony, does the jobs you hate.

Surely there must be some sort of checks or are they that desperate that anyone can hit submit and their shit goes live.

Bet they too were fooled by how it at glance would look similar and thought wow yes yes yes.

Lol and to be fair, you could say Nintendo are like ordering something from Wish.com, they're always the cheaper shittier version of anything these days.

Innovation my arse, sprinkling glitter on shit, doesn't change the fact.

Maybe if Nintendo put more money into its console hardware budget and put less into its lawyers bonus packets, shutting down small go kart company for wearing Mario theme outfits.

When all Nintendo do is recycle the exact same game, charge you full price for it again, then and only then, release new content that the game should have had in the first place.... and charge you full price for it again.

And it didn't stop there.

This game could be considered by nintendo tbf, it looks shit, its empty, so assume additional content comes later as DLC.

And when its much needed list of content it should have had becomes too much, they rub their hands with greed and crap out another title and take advantage of inflation and think it deserves charging more for.

This site Still works!!!!

Thank me later lol. I actually saw this one on the eShop.

"The game's immersive atmosphere is enhanced by its detailed visuals, eerie sound design, and a gripping storyline that unfolds as you progress."
first there is no music or voice acting, the only sound you ear its zombie noises...
lolol
Features:
- Storytelling and Narrative(there is some still images barely anything and its a 30 min game...=
- Captivating Plot (same as abode...)
- Immersive Graphics (badly immersive graphics? i mean what are they making up?)
- Engaging Gameplay Mechanics (not sure what they mean they are just walk around and shoot and shooting is very bad any hit anywhere on the body counts as 1 hit it doesnt matter where you aim...)
- Unknown Locations(its a regular city so not sure)
- Challenging Missions(they are challenging because your companion keeps dying and crouching and there isnt enough amno lol)
- Variety of Weapons(there is 3 weapons... bat, pistol a machine gun and well 4 if you count molotov grenade)
- Meaningful Choices(there are no choices...)

Saying that this game infringe on "The Last of Us" is a stretch.

As much as I'd like to live in a world without copyright and IP, let's be clear. They knew what they were doing. We know what they were doing. They know that we know what they were doing. They know that we know that they knew what they were doing.

The NES had plenty of crapware, too. lol

Crapware was particularly innovative back then. Don't even pretend that you got bored with the NES and decided that you wanted to go install linux, instead.

Did you play "The Jumping Sushi" for PS5? It was almost an exclusive but the dev decided to appease the unfortunate PS4-only people. Devs felt that despite the slower loading times, the game was an essential experience.

Nintendo has allowed crap games on their consoles since the beginning.
Atari caused the crash of the video game industry in early 80s with their trashy games, it was Nintendo with their promised Seal of Quality that revived video games. Without Nintendo, people today will only be playing games on PC.

A lot of NES games look trashy today - but back in the day, they were state of the art. In comparison, look at games like Atari ET on Youtube and you will know why video game industry crashed.

Lots of trash that was trash then. I am that old. The seal just means it’s physically of good quality. Nothing about the game

all those ljn games were preety damn trashy even back in the day imo, but not the amount of trash like this, they still had some charm and graphics were always decent for the time.
