I got 2 from Bestbuy yesterday and both were cut. The serial number is LU31588xxxx for both.

There's a guide on how to solder the wiikey on the new models.

Yes. One would need to take a dremel, sand down the PCB and then solder directly to the internal portion of the chip's legs. It's a tough fix.

The cut legs are more difficult, but possible to mod. It's the D2C chipset that you really need to worry about when getting a Wii these days...
