Ok here is the deal I had mario kart 7 as a retail cart on my 9.2 3ds
Now I have used gateway, and created emunand and then formatted my sysnand to separate my sysnand from emunand. After I downgraded my FW to 4.5

The problem is this. If I run Mario Kart 7 on sysnand I cannot play online because I cannot enter eshop to download the update for mario kart.

In emunand if I put my mario kart cartridge in the 3ds it doesn't recognize it so I can't play it on emunand and update there. So I believe I have to download mario kart 7 rom in order to play it online but how can I transfer my progress from the retail card to the rom?

Or is any other way to be able to use my retail card and play online with it?

What do you mean backup and restore? Of what?

EDIT:
Lol I didn't even notice this :P
So now I can use this save that I just backed up with my rom dump?

If you backup your own rom and save file (has to be your own because there's a header in ROM that links it to the save file) you should be able to use them. Unfortunately not every save file is compatible with Gateway as discussed here:

Lucky for you Mario Kart should have the right save file! After backing up your cartridge just move the rom (and rename the extension to .3dz) to your Gateway and rename the save file to the right titleid (I use http://3ds.essh.co)

Ok
I just let it save once and then copied the saves name to my save file and everything works :)

You want to use your Mario Kart retail game online? update your Emunand and use classic mode in gateway, there should be no problems.
