Hacking Has anyone tried trimming a PKG by removing extra languages?

I always ripped out everything else except for English, both for PSP and PS3 games.

On the PS3 I think I trimmed about 50 GB from the Uncharted series and The Last of Us combined.

Some games I manually searched for "_DEU", "_FRA", "_ITA" tags and either deleted them or moved them away from the game's folder (in case I needed them back), other games I just replaced them with 0 byte dummy files.

If you're never playing the game in Czech or Russian, for example, might as well delete the extra languages, to save space on the HDD. The games didn't really care, as long as the system language was set to English or if you didn't manually change the language to something else from the in-game options menu.

Yes, this has been answered by me already this week. Lol.

To be smore specific, if a game has TOC that requires files be certain size or specification, its more difficult, but in general you can delete most files and rebuild in pubgen with barebone files in image0, dont even need to dummy them, but its good practice to be able to, just in case.

My initial thoughts on this... generally, a point is made to request the language upon installation, therefore, isn't it a bit sloppy, unnecessary, and wasteful of a user's disk space to install ALL other language files even after we've specified what language to use?! I can't help feel a little irked about that...

i know how to unpack a fake ps4 pkg file cos there is softwares on this site to do that.
but there is nothing for ps3 fake pkg files to unpack them so does anyone know of any tools that will unpack a ps3 fake pkg file.

You're welcome Tommy! Btw removing additional voices from PS3 PKG works most of the time:

-Extract your PKG,
-Delete additional voices,
-Copy the extracted folder (NPUB, NPEB...) to your PS3 HDD/game folder (you don't have to rebuild the package and install it)
-Rebuild PS3 database and your copied game will be recognized

you can install ps3 tools, then extract pkg will be part of the context window in windows. after that, use ps3 game ripper (also part of ps3 tools) to remove languages and stuff you don't want. they'll be replaced with 0 byte files, and iirc, the original files will be placed in a folder called RIPPED, just in case the game doesn't like it.

btw, run the install file as administrator (may have to run package content id as administrator once as well) to get those in the context menu. package content id is likely to be a false positive with your virus scan, so just add it to the ignore list and restore if it does. once done ripping the package, ps3tools will allow you to create a package from the title id folder or any folder as it doesn't discriminate:
