I can't believe it! I love them, I don't care if Gateway is piracy, imma buy 30 gateways and throw them out, I NEED to support them. I asked them about 9.8 sys exploits and they responded!

SOON™.
I don't think this means much. This representative could've just said that to keep your hopes up.

The first thing I'm doing with GW when it supports up to 9.8, is downgrade to 9.2. The biggest mistake of 2015 was trying to update rxEmunand and unknowingly updating sysnand on the first 3DS XL I bought. Since then I've barely played it and had to buy a used 3DS XL (obviously would rather buy new).

Of course they're working on it, it's the only way they can hope to get an edge on all the CFWs coming out. Of course 'working on it' doesn't give any indication of whether or not they've even found a potential vulnerability to work with yet, and who knows if they actually will or not. Assuming it takes them roughly the same amount of time as it did between 1.0 and 9.x support, still got at least another year of R&D before any hope of a release.

Lol, assuming Gateway will allow you to downgrade.
Ya they won't do the same mistake twice.

I seriously doubt anything will be released. It took too much time after 4.5 before anything interesting could be done on the 3DS.

Nintendo patched everything. This is only giving people false hope. Sell your 3DS and get one on 9.2 or lower, while you still can.

Enough devs "don't want to support piracy" that it takes a long time before anything useful makes it into a free CFW. The people capable of reverse-engineering Gateway's exploit might even not release the details at all, in order to "prevent piracy". So I think Gateway is pretty safe as far as making money goes even if they release a 9.8 exploit.

Gateway pulls a 9.8 kernel exploit out of their asses.
Devs analyze new launcher to find said exploit.
Support for exploit is added to Brahma.

CFW almost immediately works on 9.8, Gateway makes almost no money.
Can't really see this happening.

Then meat lasagne, cannelloni and vegetarian cfw's are then released to satisfy everyone's appetite

You are right, but there is still some few people that prefer playing .3ds games than .cia games and theres also a lot of people that prefers buying a flashcard than installing a Cwf (I dont know why). Also if you have 2 micro sd cards you can use one for cias and the other one for .3ds

They should be working on an innovative way to make the newer eShop releases working "out of the box" (perhaps with the addition of a title-specific .key file)

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
