Hi, I'm on Gateway A9LH emunand New 3ds and would like to update to B9S. I wonder if it would work...
Not entirely sure and preferred to ask around before doing anything. My setup isn't broken so it doesn't really need fixing but a friend of mine wants his 3ds hacked through NTRboot. The poor sob updated his 3ds accidentally and now we would like to try the NTRboot flasher method. As I've read, it needs the source 3ds to be on B9S.

Any tutorials on this? I don't know how to go about this. Will I be able to use my payloads? I like how Gateway loads automatically and Luma 3ds loads when I hold A on boot, Start goes to Hourglass9.
Thanks! :D

You can remove it by downgrading your Sysnand to 9.2 with sysdowngrader, taking care not to overwrite native_firm, restoring your pre-fastboot backup, restoring a vanilla backup lower than 10.3......

My Sysnand is on 9.1, my emunand is on 11.2 though. I saw the guide at 3ds.guide but I think it is a tutorial for just Luma A9LH.

Sorry if I sound so noob, what does restoring pre-fastboot back up mean, is it the payloads?

Gateway A9LH AKA FastBoot... It's just a backup from before you installed A9LH the first time. 3ds.guide is NOT just a tutorial for Luma+A9LH, it's an all around tutorial for achieving the most updated custom firmware/exploits. After you uninstall Gateways A9LH, you can follow the guide from the very beginning (using Soundhax) which will allow you to install Boot9Strap and the latest version of Luma.

Oh that, no it's not a Gateway fastboot thing, it's an A9lH install but I just changed the payloads Liomajor released for it to load Gateway in auto. I'll try the one in the guide then. Thanks :D

Hi, I read the guide, it doesn't have any Gateway payload on it. Can I use the one I'm using? Although I read that previous payloads probably won't work. I want to do the update over the weekend when I get the time off from work.

I don't really want to lose access to my Gateway... :(

Well it's up to you. GateWay is essentially dead. It doesn't work above 11.2 so the only way to use it is to create an emunand (Gateway should never be used on Sysnand) downgrade it to 11.2, then you'd have to install a bootloader and a few extra files, plus a special version of a gateway payload. IMO it's really up to you and I'll link you the guide to doing all that if you really want to keep it. Though with CFW where it is now, the only advantage Gateway has over freeware is a drag and drop feature for ROMS. Since the 3DS can support 128GB SD cards, there really is no reason not to just install the games anyway. :D

Yeah those are the caveats. I've been using the selective cia installation file to go online on 11.2 emunand.
I'm doing a few crunches for Gateway, I've been too comfortable with it... I feel a bit foolish sticking with it but I think it would be more work to transfer my Gateway saves and games.
So I'll keep it. And hopefully I can help other Gateway users out there who also want to keep using their GW and update to b9s. :) I don't see any reason why not have the good things of both worlds. I would appreciate it if you can provide the link.

Yes. You can follow that guide just like if you were using a regular A9LH setup.
I went from liomajor's modded A9LH to B9S as well, once you have completed the guide there is a way to load Gateway's arm9loaderhax.bin payload through B9S by using BootCtr9 and v2gw.bin, instructions here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/
Works perfectly.
Though I have read that BootCtr9's compatibility with Luma3DS is a bit buggy at the moment, causing Luma3DS to error frequently when loaded through it (the error says something like "loaded from unsupported location"). If you experience that issue, it might be better to chainload BootCtr9 through Luma instead, but then you will have to hold a button on boot to boot Gateway.

Thanks I will try that, I will read on it first. I'm also coming from Liomajor's modded a9lh. Hope to pull it off soon
