Okay, so I've read some stories about people who have fucked their DS by flashing it.

My question is: Why do people flash? I mean, what's the point? I'm fairly new to the scene, and as far as I can see, there's no point flashing if you have a flash card? Or are there any other reasons people flash?

Thanks for updating me

I flashed mine because I have a slot-2 flash cart and with FlashMe I don't need to have my Max Media Launcher (PassMe varient) on me.
But you can flash an alternative firmware for a different front end, can't remember the name of the one I used previously.

I guess I won't explain it then, just link you to my guide;

Thanks, I'll check it out.

So you've flashed your DS successfully? Are there any other advantages except a different frontend? :=

Also if you are really annoyed at the "Touch the screen to continue" screen for some reason then you can remove it by flashing or you could also use it to change the phat DS firmware into the DS lite firmware for the extra brightness settings.

Are you serious? Can my Phat be flashed to use the Lite firmware? If so, I'm so going to try it. I have like three Phat's I never use.

Any more info on this, please?

My DS phat is also flashed (and I've also flashed a lite without any problems) but with flashme-stealth. No change on the outside only when you use a slot-2 card you don't need a passthrough device as the flashed DS detects and boots it itself.

The later model DS Phats that were released in Europe had the same screens the DS Lite uses, so those DSs could be flashed with Flashme for DSL and can use the brightness settings.

I've never bothered to flash my DS, but from what I've read on various forums, Flashme is for:

1. Running DS games from a slot 2 flashcard without the need for a passkey.

2. Getting rid of the health screen at boot-up.

3. To make download play work with flashcarts.

Am I missing anything?

Get a Slot-2 Card incase you brick. If you have a Slot-1 recovery mode likely won't work as it didn't with my R4DS. So I had to use my M3Lite To flash it back..

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
