yes, this can be done. u may have to look on that iso site for the cia files or the ctr transfer. I've never personally done it, but I know it can be done.

you know i always asked my self this question about downgrading the new 2ds xl. As we know it is part of the new 3ds line and OS but it does not have a 3d lever. So if we transfer the image to a 2ds xl and format, then would we not have a turn the lever up brick?

uhhhh, did a 2dsxl ever come with 11.2? If not that could be very bad. It would basically be the same as N3DSxl downgrading to 2.1 to get the OTP.... Without proper modification it could get messed up. If they had 11.2 then you should be fine, if not you could get locked at a "turn on 3d mode" screen upon formatting just like the reg 2ds!

yeah, there shouldn't be any minimum firmware requirement. I was on 2.1 with my new 3ds which came with 9.0.0 firmware during the a9lh install for example. you should be good with that. I think there's a new downgrader other than sys though, but I've forgotten the name of it.

I'm not telling him lies. I merely saying that u can downgrade without a minimum firmware requirement as long as that firmware existed to begin with.

The minimum fw is the fw that first existed for your console. O3ds can go down to 1.0. N3DS can go to 9.0 without modification. I'm just joking around with the lies part :rofl2: But seriously, I'm 99% sure it would just not boot like @ihaveamac said.

Their were edits required to even boot version 2.1 on N3DS ask the people who bricked their system when updating from 2.1.

Yep the NAND was using a different encryption on N3DS systems compaired to stock O3DS systems

So no attempting to downgrade below stock firmware on N2DS systems is not a good idea, if you really want to do it that badly at least do it with emuNAND and keep a NAND backup

Not to the system files, but to the whole ctrnand partition (since 2.1 wouldn't obviously know how to decrypt it with a N3DS key), that's also why an overdowngraded N3DS can't be updated directly to 8.1 or above (newer versions WILL understand the need for key 5 instead of 4 but fail to read a ctrnand that was converted to key 4)
