Hello, I have searched, and searched, and searched but I don't even seem to be able to find people with a problem quite like mine.
I owned a 3ds on release, and sold it shortly after for lack of use and games.
I spotted on a local ad site the other day a really, really cheap one, with this problem so I thought I would pick it up for kicks to see if I could fix it. This means I do not know the history of it, but it seems to be in good condition, and the previous owner said he did not attempt repairs or open it (and it looked virgin when I did). I do not know if flash carts etc were used on it.

When I press power, there is no sound, no image on both screens (and no backlight either, this is what I think makes it unique). No button combination triggers anything. I took out the battery plenty of times, also waiting. I removed the bottom shell and played with wifi card and got nothing (aside from two stripped screws).

Anyone know what could be up with it, and a possible solution?
Ill risk anything as it was so cheap and I have no intention of paying for repairs. I own an arduino in case any of the unbricking business might come in handy.

Thank you.

I'm not sure about your exact problem, but sometimes if the upper LCD ribbon is slightly torn the console will power on and display two black screens. Unlike the "Black screen of death" none of the start-up button combinations will work, so it's somewhat similar to your problem. But I think if the upper LCD were the issue the backlight would come on. It couldn't hurt though to clean and reseat each ribbon cable.

If you have another console with good screens and a good speaker ribbon cable you could swap the motherboard into its housing to test it. If it boots normally when connected to good screens and speakers then you know that the problem is either a bad screen or ribbon cable in the original housing. If it doesn't boot normally even with good screens and a good speaker ribbon cable then you know something is wrong with the board itself.

I reseated every cable without results unfortunately. I don't have another 3ds to test with.
I get the same unblinking blue light no matter what is attached or isnt (even just the motherboard with touchscreen and nothing else). Wifi does not give signs of life. When battery runs out, it will blink red.
I even tested both fuses with a multimeter, and both are passing current.

The motherboard is just shot and there is nothing more I can try I guess?

Ill get one off ebay, thanks!
If the blue light stays on even with nothing connected other than the touch screen then I have to agree with 4gionz: your motherboard is dead. When neither the upper screen nor speakers are connected the blue power light should shut off about 5 seconds after pressing the power button.

I hope I'm wrong and changing the WiFi card fixes your problem, but I honestly wouldn't bother trying if I were you.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
