You know what I mean...things seem to effortlessly run on the newer machine, looks like it'll be a struggle to get mgba running at a decent speed on O3DS for example...where as it more or less does already on N3DS.

Sod it...I'm getting a N3DS next week...why the hell not?
Well, when you get your n3DS, get gpSP too. It runs the GBA Yoshi's Island at 60fps.

My GBA SP runs Yoshi's Island at 60FPS. :P lol jkjk But seriously it would be cheaper for him to keep his o3ds and just get a supercard dstwo. Unless emulation on the 3ds alone is so important to him that he wants to spend 200 smackaroos vs like 40. My DSTwo can do everything the 3ds can atm including PSX using DS2Linux (but the framerate is bad and difficult to set up I'll admit). TempGBA is excellent and so is CATSFC.

The 3DS homebrew scene is still very young and would take a while for emulators to be refined. Which is why I suggest a cheap alternative until the 3DS homebrew matures in the meantime and would warrant buying a whole new console.

EDIT: Oh... Seems my memory has failed me. All the main emulators run well. But not consoles like wonderswan, or neogeo pocket/color, Pokemon Mini, atari 2600/5200...

But on the swap GBA/GBC/GB, SMS/GG, Genesis, NES/SNES, Atari 7800, Neo Geo, PE Engine/CD, Colecovision, x86, Scummvm all run pretty good.

The prospect of cranking the clock speed for non-N3DS games is pretty exciting. In particular, looking forward to seeing if there's an impact on Mirror of Fate. Really liked that game, but FPS chug like crazy. DKC:R would be another one I'm anxious to try.

Not to be a downer but everyone who's going on about clockspeed don't expect EVERY game to run with the higher clock speed... Why? Well some things rely on timing, and if you raise the clock speed.... Well things can crash, so sure try your games just don't expect every single one to... Well work

So reading about some of the updates coming, I get the feeling that they can only be enjoyed by having Cubic Ninja and Ninjhax? Or the other entry methods are fine as well?

I've used the DSTwo versions of TempGBA and CatSFC. They kinda blow to be honest. Their compatibility is meh and a lot games require frameskip. Some aren't even playable. Like the SNES Yoshi's Island. From my experience, the RetroArch 3DS emulators are just way ahead. You get more for your money.

You may very well be right on this. But I personally haven't run into any games TempGBA couldn't run and I remember Super Mario RPG being playable on catsfc. I actually own Yoshi's Island for GBA so I'm not really missing the emu support for it.

I wonder how retroarch would run on the DSTWO now that I think about it...

Would it be possible to access 804 mhz in 3dsx when this is released? If so... Wouldn't the 3dsx versions be as fast as the cia versions? (Like Retroarchs dynarec stuff)

I'm pretty sure you already can use 804Mhz with 3dsx files with the current Ninjhax 2.0. @shinyquagsire23 added support for it into gpSP (edit: I mean CitrAGB, sorry) like a week ago. But no, just because you'd be running homebrew at 804Mhz, that doesn't mean you'll suddenly have the same performance as a N3DS running at 804Mhz plus a dynamic recompiler. But you will still see significant improvements versus running homebrew at 200-something Mhz (i.e. the old 3DS clock speed).

But I'm on N3DSXL 9.2. But I prefer the 3dsx versions. (Besides ps1 and fullspeed gba) Well, I could go back to ninjhax 1.1b. But that seems like a bad idea :P

In that case, I'm not sure if RetroArch breaks into kernel mode on 3dsx builds or not. I imagine it tries to. You'd probably have ask Aliaspider.
I'm asking this because I know smealum is against piracy. But he is interested in emulation, like n64 and stuff. So if he could do the 3dsx versions as powerful as the cia versions. I guess he wants to accomplish this.

About save managers (I didn't see people talking about), does anyone think about next Smealum release also could fix actually problems (like glitching screens and freezes trying to backup savegames)?

Since it's an extra sound processor, it can take the load off the main CPU and handle the sound engine (Whatever that may or may not entail is selective), meaning the main processor now has more breathing room to be utilized for optimizations and such.
Quite a handy thing, really.
