except I can run the r4 through twloader and get both compatibility and speed boost for the small amount of games that need it

That is because nds-bootstrap is closer to a gba slot flash cart (m3 perfect, etc) rather than your r4. In fact, much of the commercial game support is (or at least was) based, somewhat loosely, on the Max Overload software which let you run commercial roms on the Max Media Dock (a a gba slot to CF/IDE adapter) and always had compatibility problems. In fact the whole donor rom thing was originally known as the MaxCrass Method.

A little update on my efforts to run Death Jr., tried playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky (needs MKDS as donor) and got the same error I got on Death Jr.. Apparently, my MKDS ROM was corrupted, got a new one and now it works. So Death Jr. should be added on the list of supported games, it only needs MKDS donor for save data to run and it runs without any issues at all (at third level now and no framedrops/spikes or anything), but loading screens can take a while. Same thing for both the EU and US versions. Also tested Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days out of curiosity and instead of white screens (like it says in the support sheet) I got red top, white bottom...

Hi,

When trying to play multiplayer on Mario Kart DS using TWLoader, the game will freeze at some point.
Here is a little video :

Is there anything that can be done so that it doesn't freeze like patching the rom or something ?

What I tried :
Using an older version of nds-bootstrap : It was even worse it would disconnect because the loading time is too long.
Using differant roms (JP and KR version) still freezes.
It does that on 3 different consoles with different specs (All B9S Luma, but one a small 3DS with 8GB Class 4 uSD, one 3DS XL with 64GB Class 10 uSD and a 2DS with original 4GB Class 4 SD.) I don't have any "New" models to test if it does the same.
Even if the multi is against only consoles with TWLoader and no original cart/flashcart, it still freezes.
Also when using TWLoader rom hosting in "simple" mode, the DSes that download play get frozen on Nintendo logo. DSes with flasme freezes on a white screen just after the nintendo logo fades out.

Any ways of making this work ?
Thanks for any ideas.

Read the comment in the supported games sheet, you need to patch the ROM. EUR version works just fine btw and is what I've been playing.

The patch they talk about if to play online with wiimmfi. The rom I used is actually patched with that (But I tried with unpatched ones too just to be sure if it wasn't the online patch that made it freeze but nope it changed nothing). But that is just for online, not for local multiplayer.

You'll have to deal with it, 'til it gets improved.
TWLoader is not updating the bootstrap anymore, is that normal?
It's because quick start is on. Try turning it off, then reboot, and try again.

the world ends with you crashes in the middle of the loading and after some time gives error.
What do I do?

Wait, what? So I don't actually have to worry about what I last played (or am playing) when my 2DS is online? That's a relief.
the only way you are getting banned is either cheating online or playing a leaked game online early...this is assuming you are playing cia files instead of using flashcarts like sky3ds

As long as you aren't blatantly showing what you are playing when using homebrews and stuff, there's nothing to worry about!:P Cheating HEAVILY can get you banned though.

I'm using a forwarder for it, but it works just fine for me (both EUR and US versions), although it stutters a LOT and even freezes before battles for a good 20 seconds or so...

Yep, all CIAs. A few 3DS games, a couple of emulators, and TWLoader+nds-bootstrap (the person who set up B9S for me specifically told me "you can't go online with a 3DS flashcart, don't bother getting one."). Good to know I can leave my WiFi on now.

For emulators, it's best to hide them by playing through the HBL, for the rest it should be safe.

you can go online with a flashcart you just need to have a 3ds game to extract a unique id from so you don't get banned but the rest of that stuff shouldn't be a problem and you don't even really need the internet on and wasting battery while using twloader and emulators

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
