Bloomberg reports tech details of 4K Nintendo Switch model, release window and pricing

After rumors about Sony shutting down the digital store of some of its older platforms, new rumors emerged today, but this time about Nintendo's upgraded Switch. According to a new report from Bloomberg, according to "people familiar with the matter", the rumored Switch Pro will use "an upgraded Nvidia chip with better graphics and processing". This chipset will provide the new Switch model with better CPU and increased memory. It will also support Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) which uses A.I. to efficiently deliver higher-fidelity graphics.

The report notes that since DLSS support requires new code to be added to games, this feature will be mainly used to enhance the graphics of upcoming titles. This information comes from the aforementioned sources and "multiple game developers".

This new Switch upgrade will apparently also feature an upgraded 7-inch OLED display from Samsung. The new NVIDIA chip will also reportedly "reproduce game visuals at 4K quality when plugged into a TV".

Bloomberg also mentions that this new Switch model is planned to release for the end of year shopping season, with analysts tipping the price tag at $400.

Again, we should take these news with a pinch of salt as Bloomberg's sources "asked not to be identified because the plan is not public". But rumors around a Switch Pro model have been circulating for a while now. Would you buy one with these specs at this price at the end of this year?

If the mid-gen upgrade has DLSS then a Switch 2 will most likely have ray-tracing support + much better specs, which should be more than enough for an upgrade

Sorry, this is absurd. Do you really think Nintendo is going to add ray tracing? We're talking about the company who at best only does safe, non-risky, small increments to their products to ensure maximum profitability.

The same people claiming that we're going to see a new SoC and DLSS along with a better screen are just fooling themselves - it's not realistic for an incremental upgrade to a system that will be replaced by Switch 2.

Another console, more than a thousand ports.

I may skip a generation and wait for the next one. :)
its funny considering nintendo are already ahead in terms of console gen number, you do know youll forever be waiting.

nintendo always release cheap inferior hardware thats just able to catch up with the last gen, so even if you wait for nintendo's next gen, itll still be behind and finally get the old ports of the titles it missed out years ago.

while very little ever changes in the same crap they release, think if nintendo cant really be arsed and only care about its games, then they should look at going as a dev and stop forcing old expensive hardware with bs gimmicks that end up been more of a problem than its worth.

A tablet doesn't need 4K, maybe DLSS can achieve 4K in docked mode though, for certain titles.
However I don't want this to come at the cost of fps. It's 2021, please let us have rock solid 60fps. For all games.

Not always. This trend has only started after the Gamecube. Anytime before that, they have been on the edge of new technology

yup because the cube was seen as a kids toy with nintendo littering it with mario "insert" activity titles, plus it lacking 3rd party support, as it already started loosing with the n64 been dated, costly and the ps1 just allowed devs to do new things.

since then, its been this way, cheap hardware to make easy money, throw in a bs gimmick to make it sell.

each time a new console is release, switch games in stores seem to get smaller and smaller

I think what people forget about DLSS is that the game has to be able to run at the lower resolutions before you try to upscale it. The current switch can only do 720p at best with third party games. I am finding it hard to believe they will put a laptop grade GPU into a small handheld, especially at a very much smaller price point. If DLSS were to be true, it's gonna be on a docked only switch
every rumour did say only docked would do 4k so yeah no one expected to get 4k handheld at all lol.

Well, not this specifically, but the N3DS did have its own games.
Yes, but the Switch is much more expensive than the 3DS was.

This time the console will be double patched and thus no way to hack it ever, ever ever ever.

So many people going "DLSS this" "DLSS that" do any of you even understand what you're saying? As far as I am aware, NVIDIA doesn't make ANY SoC's with tensor cores in them. Maybe they do, maybe they will or are working on it, but here's the thing: DLSS is something that has to be ADDED to existing games meaning they will require an update. Guess what is not going to happen? Just because a new SoC might have the technology doesn't mean that it's going to work with everything out of the box.

Y'know... Until it's hacked.

That's rather obvious, since there is actually no point in displaying 4k in such small screen.
You missed the point of my post, the new switch has to be powerful enough to run games before it can be upscaled. The current switch can't hold 30fps at sub 720 on Apex legends. If that were upscaled, you would still at best only get 1440p at sub 30 fps. If it is handheld and not upscaling, the performance can only be worse

Are people assuming Nintendo is going to run at 240p and upscaled to 720? :rofl2:
