Homebrew Any wany to use cheat codes on a GBA Virtual Console game?

Try there. They have a lot of good GBA codes, already converted to multiple types of cheat engines, including hard-to-find stuff like CB and AR v2.

So I'm guessing the code breaker codes are CB right? I tried using GBAATM and for whatever reasons the codes don't seem to be patching. Maybe I'm using GBAATM wrong?

Yeah, CB is Codebreaker. And GBAATM is a very cranky piece of software, just keep trying, and be sure to use CB codes.

Do I need the usual [M] code for it as well? Also do I leave trainer on or off?

No, you don't need Master codes. And you'll want to turn the trainer on.

Yes, very important. Some older games may not have old CB codes available, which is a shame. By old, i mean in this format:
3XXXXXXX 00XX
8XXXXXXX XXXX

Yup, that's it. And I've found that the best resource for old CB codes is GameHacking.org. They have tons of GBA codes in various kinds of formats, including old-school CB.
