I got a free Lite and I can't decide between the two. R4iSDHC is cheaper and the kernel was just updated (1.82b, 05/12) whereas Acekard 2i is heftier and AKAIO hasn't been updated since 2012.

Is there a custom menu for Acekard 2i I'm missing? I mostly worried about game compatibility, not getting a 3DS anytime soon.

I see, thanks. Isn't Wood based on the original R4, though? Will I be limited to 2Gb if I get a R4i Gold 3DS RTS?

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between this particular Wood kernel, the 1.82b R4iSDHC one (http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp) and AKAIO?

Wood is for the original R4, and is still the best. It is used on these cards from R4iDS too. You are not restricted to 2gb with the card I linked you to.
The 1.82b Kernel from R4i-SDHC is based on the DSTT menu. It is slower at browsing games (especially if you have plenty) than Wood. There is a way of viewing them in a grid, but it's still not as good. Also, you said you are using a DS Lite, well that Menu from R4i-SDHC will boot the DS Lite in full brightness every time you start it.
Akaio is like Wood, but the last version of Akaio is at least a year older than the latest version of Wood. Wood has a few more Anti-Piracy fixes and has Real Time Save too.

Ah, that explains a lot. What about YSMenu? It should be compatible, no? Although I'm guessing it's even more outdated than AKAIO.

Sorry for all the questions, it's been years since I last messed with a DSL.

YSMenu can be used on the R4i-SDHC card. The dat files are kept up to date by RetroGameFan. I use it on my R4i-SDHC card. Get the card I linked to. It will do you just fine for your DS Lite. I have one in my Lite.

Thanks for the help. I decided on the R4i Gold 3DS RTS like you suggested but also got a R4i-SDHC since it's dirt cheap and it was my first flashcart.

Call me nostalgic, I don't know. Do you happen to know the max microSD size? I wanted to get a large one, like 32 gigs, but I'm not sure either will take it.

Thanks again!

I like the Acekard 2i and Akaio a lot ...I have two myself.. but as pointed here, it's outdated for a long time already. So, your best option ends out being a R4 with Wood

You can use a 32gb Micro SD. I have one in mine.

Sorry to bother you that late, but there were some mistakes.
Wood isn't based on the kernel of the original R4 but on the open-sourced kernel from the Acekard R.P.G. That's the reason why there are many similarities between Wood and AKAIO (Acekard All in One; the 2i's kernel).
The original kernel for the original R4 is the typical R4 kernel and there were almost no updates for it. But all of them, the original R4, the Acekard R.P.G., the R4i Gold 3DS RTS (r4ids.cn) and the R4i DNS (r4idns.com) support the current Wood R4 Kernel.

Hi Technicmaster0. I know the info you posted, and you are indeed correct. I have my original R4 still.
I never said Wood was based on the original R4 kernel. Helltoast asked "Isn't Wood based on the original R4, though? Will I be limited to 2Gb if I get a R4i Gold 3DS RTS?". Even though he said "based", I got the feeling what he meant was 'Isn't Wood for the Original R4, so does this mean I will only be able to use a 2gb card?'. So I kept my answer simple, by telling him, "Wood is for the original R4", but is used on R4iDS cards too, but without the 2gb restriction. If you see what I mean, I thought he was asking more about the 2gb restriction than the origins of the Wood kernel. Maybe I got my wires crossed.
I tried to steer him away from the Acekard 2i (whch he mentioned purchasing) due to the latest Wood being more recent than the last AKAIO, and much more likely to get and update if required. Plus, a R4iDS based card working on newer machines/firmware if he decides to get a newer machine (even though he said he wasn't at the moment).

Well the AK2i should be totally fine with DS lite consoles (as updates aren't required in any way). But yeah, he should better go with the R4i Gold 3DS RTS.

I have Ak2i+ Ez 3in1combo in my Lite.
Does Wood work with Ez 3in1 just like Akaio?
Yes. Same thing. Just browse to your GBA rom directory and choose whether to flash to Psram or Nor. Rumble is set per game. There is also the 3in1 tools in the 'Start/Tools' menu.

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
