found this allready. will try to do this later.
normally it should work, its not my first homebrew action and i am a linux admin..
hopefully i can advise my son to use it in the right way.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

for a better understanding. if i am using this guide i do not need to use gateway anymore. is this right?
this means i will install a custom firmware on my 3ds. right?

That's correct!
After this guide you can run (unsigned) games straight from the home menu.
This games run from the 3DS sd card (not gateway card).
You can install games by scanning qr codes with an app called FBI and scan qr-codes on "a 3ds key site" or install Freeshop. But you can find more about that, in the guide.
There is no need for .3ds/.3dz file any more!

After that your Gateway card is a bit of useless.
But if you still want to use the card, you can follow the second link from my first post.

it makes no sense to use it, if there is another possibility.
i also found the handling for gateway a bit strange.
where to sell my card?
is this right, that i am able to put all the games to a sd card (what size?). after booting the 3ds all installed games will apear on homescreen? without doing any other thing`?

I recommand a 64GB SD card.

You don't need to put any games on the sd card.
After following the guide and installing FBI-app, scan the qr-code on "that 3ds key site" (not that 3ds rom site) and the game will install right away.
Or after the guide, you can use an app called Freeshop as an alternative, this using the same source.

After booting the 3DS, you will see all your installed games on the home menu without doing something special, it' just there.

am i able to simply copy the .3ds files to the sd card?
i have many of them.

Have you finished the guide? You won't use .3ds files anymore. The games come in installable archives of the .cia extension. You install these through FBI, a program you'll have once you finished the guide.

All the steps are explained in the guide, as long as you can understand it well enough and follow the guide closely without skipping steps, you'll be fine, I vouch for it. Best of luck to you tomorrow!

I would offer you a hand and help via skype(or insert some other app that works for you), but I won't be available till I am back home from work....
The guide has many security steps and is much shorter than it was when it came out.
Since I am also from Germany I can probably explain everything in detail before you start anything.
About your .3ds-files: You can backup the saves from the gateway games and inject them in the .cia games.
Thus your son won't lose any savegame.

If you're a linux admin the guide should be a cakewalk for you. All you need is intermediate computer skills to understand everything. Good luck!

Go into Hourglass9 and restore your NANDmin.bin

Make sure it's on Hourglass9 :)

If that doesn't work, use CTRTransfer to 9.2 and update to latest firmware from there

the one which i backed up before?
but this means, all my configurations are gone???
No no, since you're a Linux admin imma put it like this

Imagine restoring your NAND as if you changed your hard drives and you're simply putting the old Data into the new one

All of the stuff will be there, since you have that NAND backup

This sounds like arm9loaderhax.bin is missing from the SD card root. Should be a easy fix. Just put that in the root of you sd and try to boot it without holding any buttons.
