First of all, I'm sure we are all familiar with an A9LH to B9S conversion/update from the guide:

https://3ds.guide/a9lh-to-b9s.html

My first question is this: It does not appear in any step of that guide that we uninstall A9LH in any way. Could someone give me some background on why that is?

My main question: How would one go the other way. From B9S to A9LH. (Please can we not discuss why B9S is so much better and therefore there is no reason to want to go from B9S to A9LH. I want to do it to test something. And others might want to do it for other testing purposes.)

Thank you.

If I remember correctly the B9 installer uninstalls A9LH automatically.

Probably you'd need to remove B9 and go though the A9LH installer again, but why would you wanna go the other way?

Can someone confirm this?

No offense but we don't need probablys. Probablys can cause bricks! I should have put that in the OP because it seems a few posts below yours are just guessing as well.

Why would you want to read the entire OP?? :D

you simply restore the nand backup you made.
Restore the NAND backup that you hopefully made when you had A9LH installed

Are you two sure about this? I thought that restoring a NAND backup keeps a9lh / b9s. In other words it does not affect these types of hacks, they are on another level.

Dump your OTP and CTR transfer to 9.2 before uninstalling B9S, then you can use SafeArm9Installer to install A9LH.

OK this sounds right but could we have some more details? I'm fairly certain I know how to a couple of the steps.

#1: Dump your OTP

I'm only familiar with the OTP being dumped during the normal A9LH installation process that occurs after a 2.1 CTR transfer.

#2: CTR transfer to 9.2

OK this I'm pretty sure I have done before.

#3: Uninstall B9S.

Do you just use the normal installer for this?

#4: Use SafeArm9Installer to install A9LH.

This I know how to do. I'm assuming this just works on 9.2 once you have the OTP dumped.

If you use a hardmod and your computer to restore your old nand backup, you for sure do overwrite the A9LH/B9S, cause there's no hack protection there

I don't know if decrypt9/godmode has an option to disable the hack protection; so can't answer that

OK that makes sense. I'm familiar with restoring NAND backups with Decrypt9 which as far as I remember only has the (keep hax) option.

Anyway. And this is important. I'm asking for the steps similarly to the guide for A9LH to B9S:

https://3ds.guide/a9lh-to-b9s.html

In that guide he does not just assume the A9LH user has a NAND backup of a time when they were on B9S. It would be a one step guide! Just restore your NAND backup from when you were on B9S!!

That doesn't even make sense so I'm not sure why it would be brought up in the reverse case either. Perhaps so many people were on A9LH and then up'd to B9S so it is kind of stuck in their head...

Say someone hacked a fresh/clean 3DS to B9S. Then they want to uninstall B9S and install A9LH for testing purposes. What is the best way to do that?

OK so that is how to remove B9S but then you would still be on 11.5 if that is the only step you did. Thanks for the link.

So I'm assuming this might be the easiest way to go from B9S to A9LH:

(Keeping in mind this is starting with an 11.5 B9S 3DS.)

#1 Do a CTR transfer to 9.2. (Or really to any version before soundhax was patched.)

#2 Uninstall B9S as per the link reminon was so kind to provide:

https://3ds.guide/uninstall-cfw.html

#3 Proceed with a normal installation of A9LH.

Does anyone see any problems with that?

I understand that you can't properly convey emotion over text, so I apologize for my rudeness. While they were essentially right in the fact that you must remove b9s and install a9lh, their answer was indeed vague.

You will need to dump your OTP before uninstalling B9S unless you want to either have to downgrade to 2.1 or install B9S again. AFAIK there's a key combination you can hold on bootup that will dump it. You'll have to research it yourself.

The OTP is automatically dumped to the boot9strap folder when you install b9s.

And if you did have the OTP already it would be best to uninstall b9s after the 9.2 transfer. That way you have more entry point options for running SafeA9LHInstaller than if you uninstalled b9s at 11.5.

Doing that (getting the OTP ahead of time) is a bit easier but I'm so used to doing a 2.1 transfer that I don't even worry about it. And technically it wouldn't really bet that much faster.

-----------------------------------

Anyway, I finally got around to testing this. And was successful. Remember, this is for going from B9S to A9LH.

(In my case I tested it on an Old 3DS on 11.5 & b9s.)

Wish someone would being back 3dsafe and maintain as an A9lh install, that would be sweet!~ (i'm still using the old)

If you got a ntrboot on standby why not right?
