Direct downloads are almost always broken into separate parts and uploaded to lame upload sites. They're also hard to find and can time out easily often with no way of recovering your progress in the download.

Lime/Frostwire? Hahaha, fail.

eMule? Obsolete by now.

XDCC file transfers over IRC? I use these. They're great, I get all my TV shows from on certain network. But they don't have everything.

Well I use Jdownloader which is for me way faster than torrents, it takes about 20min to download a 4 GB file.
I have multiple wireless connections so megauploads download limits doesn't apply to me.

It's unbelievable there's so many having wireless without password protection.
Bad for them, Good for me!

JDownloader is a download manager for DDLs.
It doesn't make the speed go faster and you get the same speed that you would in a browser.

ed2k servers are really really good for rare stuff, and if you have patience

I just use a combo of XDCC and public/private Torrents. Works well for me.

Perhaps shaunj66 was speaking of Usenet.

Oh, and this article is inaccurate. They probably just searched up TPB and found the top torrents. My private trackers smash the "largest torrent" record to bits.

had one of the trackers i am on not had 2 carnations (with the same founder, mind you), the oldest torrent one could defiantly have broken too (however, many torrents from 2003 are on it regardless, just reupped, some are seeded, some are not).
