Hi, just got my 360 out of storage after moving house, I connected it up the other week and everything was fine (apart from 2 updates)
Turned it on yesterday to find the fans ramp up to max on the dashboard, tried a game today and it turned off from overheating with a red light

The console says overheating but its not, cold air is coming out and the whole console is cold, how do i fix it?

If the air is cold then that's the problem. The air being exhausted must be hot, which means the console is cooling itself efficiently. What you can do is simply open it up and replace the thermal paste or take it to a repairshop to do it for you.

Ah ok i was thinking that could be an issue, time to figure out how to take it apart then!

The xbox 360 console has error identification codes, on the internet you can find instructions and what type of error does your console have, it could be simple overheating, just change the thermal paste, the most serious problems are the cold contacts on the card always due when the console is heated.

2 red lights is overheating. there's an error code thing, yes, but it only works with rrod. it's the secondary error code. often times, rrod will be the result of overheating though. one red light could be e74, which is hardware failure as well. I'm not sure if this applies to slims though, because afaik, they can't actually get rrod. they get rdod (red dot of death) for the same reason.

E74 is the HANA chip, this chip takes care of the video signal, it converts the signal for the tv digitally, if you have a component cable try to attach it to a tv, the component cable is analog and the console could work, to fix the chip you should unsolder and resolder with the help of a heat gun and of course soldering iron, first but just try to change the thermal paste it could only be a problem related to the thermal paste, this happened on the first models of xbox 360, do not pass the heat gun as in some video tutorials, it works for a few months but you risk breaking the motherboard, like the cloth left on the console ..., make sure you have followed the procedure well to understand what your error code is before performing a repair.

weird that it had one red light. even microsoft's website says two red lights is overheating. one red light is supposed to be hardware failure.

if mean those stations, then yes. you can get one on ebay for like $800 from what I remember, but that was a couple years ago.

I just saw this (didn't read description though): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Upgraded-B...969374?hash=item338b55839e:g:nl8AAOSwkB1exodT

looks like the prices have come down. most seem to be around the $500. I think a reball for at least a ps3 is usually around $80 or the price of a new, used system.

I had to send my xenon away to get a reflow/reball once when I had fixed it for the last time. the guy wouldn't return it either. he ended up breaking one of the fans as well. I got him to return it after I told my friends on usenet about it. they started harassing him.

I think so. I'm not really sure. I think they do for the ps3 at least, but it's not worth the money.

it's a slim? I didn't notice that, but I didn't read every post. I have no experience with slims (never even seen one), just phatties. :D

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I have two falcons (both jtags with one being the aud clamp), and one jasper (flashed drive). never really had any problems with the jtag I use. though, I keep temp thresholds at 60 degrees C. I've even left it on all night while I transferred content from the internal hdd. kinda noisy with the fan, but not too bad.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
Karma177 @ Karma177: @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really...
