Nintendo Labo announced

Nintendo has revealed the announcement they were teasing for today, and at 10 PM GMT, the Nintendo Labo was revealed to the public. Focusing on three key tenets of "make, play, and discover", the Nintendo Labo are "Toy-Cons" that consist of cardboard and can be crafted together to create things such as a little piano, house, fishing rod, and more. The Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are then placed within them, for interactivity. To start, there will be two kits, one that's a variety kit which includes a fishing rod, 2 cars, a house, a motorbike handlebar, and a piano. The second, is a "robotic backpack suit". The products will cost $69.99 or $79.99 respectively.

Both sets will release on April 20, 2018, and Nintendo will be holding hands-on events to demo the Nintendo Labo in New York City from Feb. 2-3, and in San Francisco from Mar. 2-4. If you're interested, you can register for that here. The Labo will require folding the cardboard in order to make it form into the object you want, by following the guidlines provided in the box. Some of the creations will also have minigames that utilize the Joy-Cons, where you use the rumbling from the controller in order to know when to reel in the fishing pole. Also shown was a piano, which plays music when the cardboard keys are pressed.

I guess part of the experience is building it up together with your kid.
It would be a shared experience, the kid may enjoy being part of building it and all the time he/she will be seeing the internals and getting a clue of how it all works. I think kids find this rather amusing.
I didn't want to say that the models are too hard to build for children. I wanted to say that the models are too hard to build from scratch without the premade cardboards, because many people are saying it would be easy to print this at home and Nintendo could only release the software.

"Labo" sounds like some kind of slang word for labia. Labial and Labo sound like they can be interchangeable for describing that region. Just sayin'. I think Nintendo is up to more sexual innuendo's with this one. Just like Peach, and her "peach pie" always being the prize at the end of every Mario game.

If there is a Switch emulator, I doubt anything built with Nintendo Labo is going to work.

It's ingenuity comes with actual physical handling of many different things that the emulator wouldn't be able to solve.

Checkmate, emulation devs, I guess?

Emulating cardboard, the unsolvable computational problem...

Nintendo is providing the cut outs and the patterns for free.

You're completely missing the point if all you consider is the price point.

How about... NO?
You know what "labora" means in Latin? It means "Work". And I only can guess - but you have to "work" with the cardboard stuff. I think the name works in that way perfectly. The customer is "working" with the product

I personally was shocked in the beginning. But then I realized that this thing will be super fun to play with my son! Its a clever way to "teach" the kids that videogames are not simply sitting in front of something - its about imagination and exploring.

Instant buy for me with the starter package.

I am genuinely concerned what ramifications could come from this.
Cardboard can give you quite a nasty cut. WE know that as adults, but children won't be aware of that danger.
It is only a matter of time before some parents' "precious" is harmed by this evil enticing pasteboard.

Someone is gonna try and make bank off this oversight. It never fails.

Perhaps they should include Nintendo branded first aids bands?
