OP
I'm going to buy either a PS4 or XBONE. I want the PS4 because it has a better library, but the XBONE X has the best hardware by far. Has Sony ever hinted that they're working on a system which rivals or dethrones the XBONE X?

You answered your own question. Do you want to play games or look at games ? if you want to play games and prefer nintendo games, you'll buy a switch. If you naturally prefer the ps4 library go for it. Once you're playing uncharted 4, you'll not be wondering how it would have been on xbone x, because you couldn't have played it.

if power is the only thing that matters to you, just save a whole lot more and play on pc with an ssd, a 1080 and a good cpu, and loads of ram. It'll blow away both ps4 pro and xbone x, but you'll still can't play uncharted 4, persona 5, or whatever xbone exclusive there is.

No, no afaik. If you don't care about exclusives and only about the hadware raw power, buy One X. If you, in the other hand, are interested in the PS4 exclusives, then buy PS4 (pro if you want but you don't even need it).

If you want a system that dethrones the XBox One X, invest in a PC. Better library and raw power. IMAO you don't buy a console for raw power but for the library.

I really doubt there will another iteration of the PS4 or Pro. Pro has been so badly supported so far I think they'd be mad to put out another sku before PS5 launches.
Is there a list of games that actually take advantage of the ps4 pro enhancements? So far I know Rise of the tomb raider, Uncharted 4/ Lost legacy, Final Fantasy 15 and some currently released games which happen to be very few, they also promised older games will get update patches for it and even newer released ones don't even support it. Is starting to be like the New 3DS XL situation. (Though they have is own exclusive games like fire emblem heroes and snes vc, but i guess people wouldn't allow ps4 pro exclusive games would they?) I mean they probably have less than 20 games with ps4 pro enhancements, and doesn't look like is getting better.

Some advice for OP, buy console for the games not the power. Each platform of systems have their own exclusive content of games, so remember that. Hardware isn't the reason to buy a console, is the games they have and how much fun it is. Yes is fact hardware does determine what kind of games you could probably expect to see on it, but most devs do focus on multiplatform ports of games which doesn't always take full use of the hardware for that purpose. If you want a shiny new portable console hybrid system, get a switch, if you want a solid set of fighting games and jrpg, get a ps4, if you want, whatever the xbox is pushing at the time (I dunno cause i don't own one) get a xbox, but honestly if microsoft is doing windows 10 port of all their xbox games, why bother at all, just get a pc and play the same stuff on it, most people who had a xbox since day one, haven't really been using it (I checked on twitch to be sure, hardly see anyone playing a xbox one) games like Killer instinct or cuphead is on steam. (Again not sure what would be the big xbox sellers)

We're really regressing here (or never tried to better ourselves), before there was the bit wars, now we have similar situation. I mean what do you want to do with RAW power?

The Xbox One X is marginally more powerful than PS4 Pro and will allow certain physics based effects not possible with a PS4 Pro, but really speaking the difference is not going to be as obvious as PC to console. Think about the games announced at E3, did anything in Microsoft's lineup look that much different from what we've seen on the Pro? Swings and roundabouts. I'd say if your primary reason for going with a One X is for the power alone, you may end up disappointed. One thing in Sony's favor are outstanding exclusives.

Yes, Sony hinted that they will release a PS5 at an undisclosed date.
Best to list down 10 games, look at playthroughs and then make your decision.

Just buy whichever has the games that interest you, Xbox is more powerful, and no Sony won't release a new device until PS5, it's no good having the more powerful machine if the games you want aren't on that device.
