Hacking Where can I buy a PS3 slim for hacking?

Im looking for a PS3 slim to install cfw on and run hacks and homebrew, plus other stuff like game backups, emulators and some day run Linux too. I read that model numbers CECH-3000 and above can't be hacked or downgraded, and I need firmware 3.55 or below. Where can I find a PS3 slim with that firmware? I don't want to have to open up my console and start soldering because I have zero soldering experience and can't afford to replace a broken console. I want one that's already on 3.55 or below.
As I live in London (UK), my options are GAME or CeX (webuy). I also have Amazon and eBay. Can I get a PS3 slim w/ ofw ≥3.55 or below from any of those or do I have other options as well?
Also, I'm a complete noob to PS3 hacking but I've had experience hacking Nintendo consoles (Wii, Wii U and 3ds).

UPDATE: Since the release of PS3Xploit I just ran to CeX as soon as I could and got a CECH-2001A Slim.

If you can't find a PS3 on the right firmware just look on eBay and type in jailbroken PS3. You can also get a compatible model from cex and check some of the listings on eBay because some may say they do a downgrade service. Last year I traded in stuff at cex and got 2 compatible PS3 and shipped them to some random guy on eBay who offered a downgrade and cfw install service for 30 quid. I had to pay 1 way shipping though and he shipped backed out of the 30 quid. Look through some adds if your not wanting to pay eBay prices for a cfw PS3. Type in eBay PS3 downgrade service and check sellers history and feedback for a good one

That’s exactly what I would do. You can buy the E3 Flasher yourself if you want. Around £60. Get a compatible PS3 from CEX or eBay. If you have cash, buy a brand new one if you want. Will cost same price as a brand new PS4 though. The downgrade process is easy. Follow a guide online to open the PS3 and downgrade it. Take around an hour going slow and taking it easy. - once you’ve done that you can keep the E3 and use it on any other PS3. I.e a friends. Charge them for a Chinese and beer and you and your friend are quids in!

Get a slim. 2k

Find the ps3 you want buy it and a NOR flasher downgrade it and voila. If I'm wrong then sorry but I'm almost positive all firms can be downgraded with this clip on flasher.

Between 3.41 and 3.55 are hackable and you can get a PS3 Slim w/ ofw 3.55 or less and update it with REBUG at: https://rebug.me

unknown. I'd imagine most wouldn't let you. your best bet is ebay. you can install rex over any firmware 3.55 or less. though, 3.56 is exploitable as long as you have a flasher.

Nah, it is highly unlikely any PS3 in their shops will still be on 3.55. That firmware came out 2010!. Check the bottom of the console for the model and as long as it is an exploitable model, buy it. Play it for a few hours and leave it on to ensure there are no problems with it. Then buy the E3 and mod it.

I bought mine from logic sunrise. Mine turned up and was a legit E3 Flasher. Still have it to this day.

I also found a video tutorial on hos to downgrade yourself. Do I need the big card or do I just need the ribbon cable and the panel with the LEDs and switches?

You can get a 3.55 PS3 on Ebay then simply install CFW yourself via a usb memory stick.

A lot of people advertise 3.55 PS3 when it's on the latest REBUG etc, to pick up on search hits and get round ebays rules.

Possibly a win for the OP given his desires. I suppose the seller could be messaged to confirm if that was the case if a PS3 just on 3.55 with now CFW was desired.

Yeah, it's worth talking to the seller. They might even install some apps so you don't need to do anything.

Personally I only install REBUG 4.81.2, movian, sMan and psnpatch. Then store games on a NAS, so you don't have to worry about filling up the internal hard drive. Either way, store games as iso and not PSJB folders.
