...plus, I was wondering if there'd be anything to commemorate the 6 year anniversary of the release of the original 3ds - didn't expect this though!

They didn't seem to be bothered by that when they removed the GBA slot on the DSi, breaking compatibility with all games that used a SLOT-2 expansion of any kind. Hardly anything uses the camera, it's a waste of space. Fortunately VGA cameras cost virtually nothing, so they can shove them into anything without a major cost increase.

Not to mention, Yokai Watch uses the front camera. Games are already going to be broken without the front camera there. Honestly, they should have nixed the cameras for the n2dsxl in general.

Fortunately the game isn't very good, so no harm done.

EDIT: upon further inspection there seems to be a front-facing camera on the hinge, so all is well I suppose.

This was unexpected. I was hoping that the 3DS's life would come to an end when the year ends. I don't want to see Diamond and Pearl remakes on the N3DS when they would look a hundred times nicer on the Switch. Given the comments here already it doesn't look like this system will sell well. Everyone who wants a 3DS already has one.

Damn, I'm not gonna lie, this does look sleek and sexy, this could be the DSlite of the 3DS model.

I sense the next Pokemon game coming to 3DS/2DS this year, Switch version looking unlikely, maybe multiplatform

I wish people would drop the idea that the Switch will replace Nintendos handhelds. While portable, the Switch doesn't match up to the true nature of handheld gaming.
The core Pokemon games have always been exclusive to Ninty's handhelds.

Love it.
Haven't got a 3ds or 2ds yet.
This can play the more demanding games on 3ds. with xl screen without the cast of the 3d functions.
Hmm price is nice to to be honest, color scheme coul be be better...

This will probably pull me over in instead of the switch.

I finaly know why is raining here: thanks Nintendo for ruining my baseball time. But seriusly i like the design, even if again no custom faceplates/cover you lazy f***, but i don't complaing that much becouse in Italy even the simple cover are hard to find if you don't live in Milano or Roma, but i was surprise of this announcement. For the pepole that ask why buy this: well if you already have a system is not for you obviusly (unless you are a collector and whant all the system anyway). Also i noticed that after this announced...be ready for more FW STABILITY!
I notice that some games are be announced with the system, or at least the relased date, and unfortunaly for Italy there is a "Hey!Pikmin" date but not "Miitopia". Well i guess i have to wait.

i saw New 2DS XL Dragon Quest 11 edition on siliconera some while ago, and i have to say nintendo is insane XD

edit: they got the price point right though, 149$ is a good deal for this handheld, it looks good to me.

woops never mind, i looked it up just now (regarding its screen size).

The new system will be available in a stylish black/turquoise color, and will use the same size large screen found on New Nintendo 3DS XL systems.
