Sorry for being such a nuisance I just know homebrew never done custom firmware before
Do you have the .bin and .bin.sha files in CtrTransfer folder

Hi All,

I'm an uber noob. I have just picked up a New 3DS XL with a firmware of 10.7.0-32e. I just wanted to know if Gateway can be used with 10.7.0-32e or would I have to try and downgrade?

Thanks
Don't use gateway. Use 3ds.guide
What he said !
much better to have custom firmware than use an expensive hardware thats nearly obsolete.
https://3ds.guide if you follow this guide from start to finish then it should work perfectly and then you will be laughing ,mate

The guide is pretty noob friendly, so if you are good at following instructions you will be fine.

Not sure if this is in the proper area or not (so if not, then please tell me), but I am having an issue with my Luma. I don't have A9LH so lets not start on that, I would like to "upgrade" to it once I figure out this problem first. I have a New 3DS XL that has 9.2 System Nand with Menuhax so I can boot to HomeBrewMenu or my EmuNand that has an 11.1.0-34U Luma (I have Menuhax due to this being from way back when "safe" downgrading had just started, so no A9LH at the time). I am trying to get TWL Loader working along with both a DSi title I installed and GBA VC. Lets start with the DSi game:

- I installed it with an older build of FBI (version 1.4.17, injected to "Health and Safety" on my EmuNand. Also, oddly it does not appear on my 9.2 System Nand despite FBI 2.4.7 claiming FBI is installed to my Nand) to my Nand, it appeared on the EmuNAND. I did not install it to EmuNAND, as FBI 1.3.17 will not let me, keep getting some error screen saying Install failed! *such_and_such.cia Source: SOURCE_FSFILE_WRITE (0x1c) Module: MODULE_NN_AM (0x20) Level: LEVEL_USAGE (0x1c) Summary: SUMMARY_INVALID_ARGUMENT (0x7) Description: DESCRIPTION_INVALID_COMBINATION (0X3ee) Press Start to continue." While like I said, it installed to NAND (not showing up if I boot up my 9.2 System NAND), but shows up in my EmuNAND. I clicked the icon, and get nothing but a black top screen and bottom screen with the message "An error has occured. Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Operations Manual for details." Now I know that Luma is supposed to patch the TWL, but it seems to me that mine did not.

- The next is over the GBA game, its a similar problem to the DSi/TWL one. Except that when I installed it to the NAND, it showed up on EmuNand as a black icon. (If I'm remembering right) I was able to manage to install it to the EmuNAND as well, and shown it's icon (although I still had the black one as well). I tried clicking on the black icon first, nothing but the black screen error listed above. I tried to do the same thing with the actual game icon, same issue. Again, I know that Luma is supposed to patch the AGB firm, but again, seems like mine did not.

- What seems to be my problem (if anyone has any guesses) and how can I fix it (besides "install A9LH". As I said, I want to figure out these problems first) is my CFW Franken-ware?

*I used the name "such_and_such" to not list the game's actual name. But it did the same thing for the TWLLoader TWLNAND-Side cia.

First of all, let's explain NAND vs SD, and emuNAND vs sysNAND.

On sysNAND, the NAND memory is stored on a system chip. Official system titles are installed here, as well as apps like eShop, Mii Plaza, etc.

Games, in contrast, are installed to the SD card. Their data is in the Nintendo 3DS folder.

Now the emuNAND. In emuNAND, the memory that would normally be stored on the system chip is instead stored in a separate partition on the SD card. It still acts like system memory though - official system titles and eShop, Mii Plaza etc are installed here.

Games are still stored in the normal partition of the SD card, in the Nintendo 3DS folder. If you sysNAND and emuNAND are linked, the games will be in the same folder as the games installed on sysNAND, and if unlinked, there will be a separate id folder for them.

When you install something to NAND, on sysNAND this will be on the system chip, and on emuNAND it will be the system memory location on the special partition.

If you install a non-system title to NAND, it will NOT work. The best you can hope for is a mysterious black icon that does nothing.

If you want to install a game to sysNAND, you have to actually be in sysNAND. If you install from emuNAND, you'll only be installing to emuNAND.

DSi games actually have to be installed to NAND. But they have to be installed both on emuNAND's NAND as well as sysNAND's NAND.

GBA games, however, are not installed to NAND so they will turn up as a black icon if you try to do this. (If you install something to NAND that is not meant to be there it will just be a black icon). You need to install it to SD on both emuNAND and sysNAND for it to work.

This is one of the many reasons the world has moved to a9lh now - not needing an emuNAND means you don't have to deal with this headache.

Also, you wouldn't have even been able to make this mistake if you'd used a more recent version of FBI - it prevents you from installing non system apps to NAND. I haven't seen this mistake made in at least a year and a half. (It used to be very very common)

I've tried the first part with the soundhax. When I go through the process and click on the m4a file it just takes me back to the home screen, any ideas?

Also, do I need to buy a a power saves? Just trying to do some research.

Is this a good tutorial to watch:

Thanks

Dont update untill you are told to on the guide. You really only need to follow this guide https://3ds.guide don't see too many sources or you will get confused this guide is the best way to do it.
what do you mean buy a powersaves?

and you mean upon trying to play "<3 nedwill 2016" in 3DS sound app it gos back to home screeen?
also make sure contents of the starter folder in starter.zip are on the root of your SD card and copy the otherapp payload to the root of your SD card and rename it to otherapp.bin.
when you get otherapp payload make sure you select your current version 10.7 and region.

I would like to play .nds files, would it be save to use an old R4 kinda cart with micro-sd? Or are these unsave also with CFW.
Launching GW on 11.3 will result in a black screen and will wipe A9LH from your system. Using Brickway is one of the worst things you can do on A9LH'd console. Please do yourself a favour and trash that card.

So I finally succeeded in installing A9LH. Now I want to install my games through SD Card so I don't have to haul my cart bag anymore. Any decent sites where to download. And once I download these CIAs (not ROMs anymore right?), how do I install these?

We aren't allowed to link to those sites in gbatemp. You can also backup your cartridges to cia with Hourglass9. You install cias with FBI. You can also use freeshop to download and install games directly on your 3ds.

No nds flashcart should be able to cause a brick. It's only gateway, because it modifies the 3ds itself. Nds carts don't do any modifications.

Well, I will toss out the N5 anyway.

take the n5 and toss it out right now. the n5 msd slot draws to much power on boot up. you can, and probably will, blow a main mobo fuse at some point. this is well documented.

Thanks for your help. I managed to follow the tutorial all the way through.

What do I do now with getting 3DS games on it? I can download .3ds files, do these need to be converted to cia files and if so how do I do that?

Thanks again.

That iso site has games in .cia format, you can install freeShop and download games through that (doesn't have every game, but it has quite a few popular titles), or you can look up a .3ds to .cia converter to convert your .3ds files to .cia files.

Everything was working perfect. Now when I boot up it takes me directly to Luma3ds. When I press start to continue on it takes me to another screen saying 'An error has occurred: Error writing the configuration file, press any button to shutdown.
