@LeonardoGolden @Rhymekaze

Regions can be converted to other regions with SaveDataFiler through a useful trick. For example, I converted my USA Zelda Majora's Maks 100% save to EUR then imported with SaveDataFiler. If Leon has access to SaveDatafiler on both 3DS, he can certainly convert his USA save to EUR or Jap!
Check out this tutorial: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...v-to-eshop-3ds-3dz-with-savedatafiler.380246/

I should note that it is pretty tricky to do.

EDIT: Leon mentioned Animal Crossing New Leaf Eshop version? Good luck importing ANY save to that version of the game! The game just won't let you import saves. There is a workaround I believe, let me go search.
EDIT2: Here it is, a guide on how to get passed the anti save restore feature in ACNL eshop version: https://gbatemp.net/threads/animal-crossing-new-leaf-save-help-needed.391401/#post-5548652

I have a new 3DS running firmware 9.7.0-25U and I was not able to find much information on what flashcarts I can use. I'd like to get one that can play 3DS, DS, and homebrew games. Therefore, Gateway looked like a good option, but I'm not sure it will work with my system. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

Okay so I haven't touched my 3DS for a while but Fire emblem IF got me interested.

I have old 3ds XL with Gateway with emunand not updated for a long time.

What emunand firmware version do I need to have? Can my 3ds play it?

Do I need to have new 3DS to play it?

Also, can sky3ds play any roms? I researched and got mixed reviews saying that it can/can't play foreign(non-US) roms

@Blubberguy22

You can't use Gateway on your 3DS since it's above 9.2. You'll have to go with a Sky3DS which only plays 3DS games (No eshop games, no homebrew)
BUT, since Ninjhax 2.0 came out recently, you can use the Cubic Ninja rom and run Ninjhax 2 and use homebrew!

@lachtos

Your only choice is Sky3DS since you're on 9.5. You can use stuff like regionfree and homebrew.
No you can't use your Ez flash with your N3DS, only the first gen DS and DS Lite. If you want to play DS games, you can get an R4 Gold.

I have a question regarding private headers. I have a japanese new 3ds and I bought the Japanese version of Xenoblade (great game by the way).
Can I use the Japanese version of Xenoblade with powersaves to get a private header?

Also if I use regionfour or the new ninjahax to play non japanese games with sky3ds on my 3DS, should I get a private header for that region? So for games in EU, use a private header from a EU game for example?

Thanks

Nobody has any idea for the private header? Sorry to be pushy, I'm only going to stay in Japan one more week (after that I'll be out for a couple of month) so if I need to buy another game to get the private header, I need to know as soon as I can...

Thanks!

Thanks for the answers.

My current progress status is:
-emuNAND successfully updated to 9.9
-performed 'Format System Memory' to unlink sysNAND and emuNAND
-successfully installed FBI over Health&Safety App in emuNAND
-successfully installed BigBlueMenu cia in emuNAND

Again I have some more issues and questions:

1. Leaving System Settings from within emuNAND returns to sysNAND. Is that 'normal'?
2. Launching automatic rxMode emuNAND mode sporadically does not work. Using the menu item instead works properly.
3. I tried to launch GW launcher again (go.gateway-3ds.com), but it does not load anymore. Due to the installed DS profile exploit?
4. Still using rxTools release 2.6. Is that okay or are there any reasons or pros to use 3.x?
5. My sdcard is a SANDISK Ultra microSDHC 32GB Class 10. Is it okay?
1. Yes, this is normal. The console reboots so that the system settings changes take effect, which kicks you out of emuNAND.

2. Not sure about this. I know CFWs/GW have never had a 100% successful boot rate. If one way is more successful than the other, I would just stick with that way.

3. Is the Launcher.dat still on your SD card? Sometimes the web exploit will fail, you may have to give it a few shots before it works.

4. From what I can tell, rxTools 3.X is still in beta development. For now, I don't see any real reason to update from 2.6.

5. Yes, that SD card should be perfectly fine.

From what I know, you can use a header from any region, on any of your games no matter the region.
Back in the day, someone shared a Japanese Metal Gear Solid 3 header and it worked for everyone. It was a public header so now it's became obsolete xD

But yeah a Japanese game header should be just fine for all your games.

I just got a transcend 64 GB SD card of amazon and it proved to be faulty since it could not launch gateway, the one that came with 2DS worked. Is there another 64Gb SD card that I can get that would work, would this one work SanDisk Ultra 64GB Class 10 SDXC Memory Card Up To 40MB/s-SDSDUN-064G-G46?

Hello all.

I am planning to buy a New 3DS XL soon and I have a couple of questions. I've never owned a handheld nintendo console before so I don't know much about them.

1. I am planning to buy it from amazon. Now from my understanding, gateway 3DS works on versions up to 9.2 and Sky3DS works on all n3ds versions. Is that correct? What might the version be from amazon straight out of the box? Also I am planning to buy a game with it so the console might get updated. What I am asking is, I am planning to buy both the 3ds and the sky3ds or gateway3ds in the same time. IF i bought a gateway 3ds, I might end up with a Firmware thats above 9.2 (if the handheld came with a fw thats above 9.2 or if I updated it) and thus gateway will be useless, correct? So should I go with sky3ds?

2. it says in the 3ds flashcards comparison that sky3ds isn't region free. Does that mean it won't run backups from another region? or that it won't run original cartridges from another region?

3. it also says that sky3ds doesn't play e-shop 3ds games. Does that mean I won't be able to play games even if I bought them from the e-shop?

4. n3ds doesn't come with a charger, so I am assuming a regular 3ds charger works?

5. Is it safe to go online with sky3ds?

6. is modchipsdirect.com a legit site?

7. I've read in an old sky3ds review that said "It only has 10 non-rewritable slots for games, if you want to play more games, you have to purchase another sky3DS". Is this still the case? Meaning can't I play more than 10 roms on it?

1) The only way to know for sure is to check the serial number, so you're kind of at the mercy of luck when it comes to buying from Amazon. I believe most are at or below 9.2, only ones manufactured after the release of 9.3 will have that. I would recommend waiting to buy a card until after you receive the system and can check your version. After you get the system, you can choose not to update it. If the game you try to play asks to update, simply don't play that game yet. Don't access the eShop without a way to spoof your System Version. If your system arrives with an exploitable System Version, then it's worth waiting a couple weeks for a Gateway to arrive. (I haven't yet researched custom firmwares enough to know if any of them have advanced enough to render the Gateway obsolete, but since everyone keeps talking about it happening "soon", I'm assuming it hasn't happened yet.)

2) Sky3DS runs backups, it has no connections to run an original card. Since it does no patching or other hacks, it will not allow you to play backups from another region by itself. There are exploits such as RegionFour to allow you to play out-of-region backups.

3) The Sky3DS only runs card backups, it won't run backups of eShop games. It will not prevent you from playing games you've acquired from the eShop or installed via other means.

4) To the best of my knowledge, the Old 3DS charger works just fine with the New 3DS, but I don't have a New 3DS, so I can't say with 100% certainty.

5) To play online with either Gateway or Sky3DS, you will need to patch your backups with a private header. There are several guides on this, and how you do it depends a bit on which card you end up going with.

6) I don't think I've dealt with them before, so I don't know for certain, but I believe that site is legit.

The main difference between Gateway and Sky3DS is that Gateway has its own code that it runs, which requires an exploit (which is why it can't be used above 9.2) but allows you to do more. Since it can patch signature checks and other things, it allows you to install CIA files (including eShop games) and play games from other regions, and so on. Sky3DS disguises itself as a retail card, so all it can do is pretend to be any retail card you want. But without being able to disable signature checks, it can ONLY pretend to be a legitimate, signed card, so you can't run anything unsigned using a Sky3DS by itself.

Thanks for replying. i just have 1 more question.

I read an old review of sky3ds and it said there is a 10 backups limit on it. is that still the case?

To the best of my knowledge, that applies to an older model of the card. The current version no longer has that limit. I don't own a Sky3DS, so I haven't done too much research on it, though. I know one is "red button" and one is "blue button", but I don't remember which is which.

Yes, Launcher.dat is still on the SD card. I copied it again but it does not work anymore.
Is that a side effect of the installed DS profile exploit to launch rxTools? 'Reinstalling' the DS profile exploit to boot Gateway works. The Launcher.dat file is okay.

Maybe I should post this issue in the corresponding' [Beta] Spider DS Profile RopLoader (4.x only)' thread as well.
