ok this 10 games only for the life of each sky3ds card is damn fail. if it has to do with the ids then why cant you just have one slot and each id is stored on the sd card. when a rom is loaded it loads the id off the sd card and writes it to the id slot. What, are they using write once memory?

as for the saves they can be on the sky3ds. There can be save banks for each type of save. the micro controller chooses the slot and loads the save when the rom is loaded. after a game writes a save, the on board micro-controller should then update the save on the sd card. all of it should happen in a few secs.
the micro-controller should know what a games save/cart drm is so it can make the corrections before the game boots.

If there is no on-board programmable micro-controller then that's just fail. any flash card that complex has to have its own computer. The 3ds has a lot more drm then a ds/gba. so why would you not make the flash card smart? It dont seem hard to add 5 tiny holes in the side for a USB Dongle to reprogram the controller.

My Super Wildcard DX2 is more advanced then this flash cart. Yeah the DX2 is a cart emulator but still its 1994 TECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it actually runs an embedded version of DOS and has its own cpu.

I will wait for a review. If it is confirmed 10 games permanently by a reviewer, not a product I would spend a penny on. Maybe they will sell a linker later that allows erasing and rewriting to make even more money. Who knows. This would have been awesomwe for my kid.

~$60 per game (AUD)
~$600 per 10 games
~$120(?) per Sky3DS

What happens when you have finished playing through the 10 games you chose to write to it? What if one of the 10 turns out to a crappy game you don't even want to play through?

Edit: I have a gateway and I love it. But again, for my 8 year old daughter, this would have been great. She has me change games for her all the time on her DS cart. 3DS would not be any different. She is 8, she gets bored. About the only 2 games she plays regularly on her 3DS are Pokemon and Mario Kart.

well then I'll stick with my GW cause 60$ = 3000$ value (considering that games are 40$ here)
I can't deny that the Gateway is a much better option. I, (as well as others) however, updated my 3DS and never had the option to use the Gateway.

Q: What's that mean - "ten 3DS games maximum for each flashcard"?
A: You can choose to copy any 10 games into your microSD card at the first time, you do need more SKY3DS cards if you want to play more 3DS games anyway.

Just this alone makes the whole thing worthless. No thanks.

I made the choice for my son to update his 3ds from 2.1.0-4E to the newest firmware, I had a doubt to update it to 4.5.0-xE with the lego movie we have and buy a gateway adapter, but becouse he can't use the internet and can't play games together with that, I made the choice not doing that. If this works online at the newest firmware in the EU, than I can think about it again, but that is for the future, it has to be good first, so I don't waste money on something it aint worth. Like above that you can put 10 games on a micro sd, then I think you must be able to erase the games and put new games on it, and newer software, becouse Nintendo will keep upgading too. Just wait and see, and other wise keep playing Original games.

But you can go online with a Gateway, and update to the latest system version by using its emuNAND, which runs a seperate copy of the system software from SD.

so where are all those "homebrew lovers" who claimed they bought gateway for this? all i see is "i don't wanna admit piracy"
at least be frank with your daily use :)
if 10 games aren't enough on a card it just mean you( ll) never bought (buy) a retail game

you could have updated to 4.5, then set 3 fake wifi settings in sysNAND + set parental controlls, install gateway exploit, set up emuNAND, set a working wifi connection in emuNAND, update emuNAND and tadaaaa, you would have a console, that can't accidentally be updated on sysNAND and has online access on emuNAND

sky3ds doesn't even support homebrew, so there really is no point to argue over it with this flashcard

gateway isnt limited to 10 games, thats just the sky3ds card....gateway does pretty much any and every game you can fit on it

Worthless? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Come on people. Really? If you were to say it's not value-for-money (relatively), then yea, I'd agree. If you said it was one hell of a crappy restriction, I'd also agree. Would I buy it? At this point in time, hell no. But saying that it's useless/worthless is a wee bit of an exaggeration, no? Do note that I'm trying to give you shit personally. This is more of a response to replies of the same nature.

And to those who are up in arms over these devious implementation of "DRM", we don't even know if it is intentional or just a design flaw. I wouldn't put it past them to do something like this, but until we know for sure, let's just put our pitchforks and torches away.

Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. We don't even know if this will ever make it to the market. :P

Thanks I was told I can't use online functions, that's why I chose to upgrade, It's not upgraded jet, but I used it online so the update is in the 3ds and ask me to install, I didn't do it, but am I able to update it to 4.5.0-xE when the newest is in the 3ds ?

Tell that to someone with a bricked 3DS ;).
Except that unlike Sky3DS, GW didn't intend to screw its customers and that was a honest mistake. They only intended to brick the systems their competitors' users. Which is still pretty bad, but still not the same as intentionally screwing their own customers.
Half of this thread reads like Gateway fanboys circlejerking about how awesome Gateway is/how awful anything else will be. It is mildly annoying to read. Huntereb might not be one of the fans, but it wasn't directed explicitly at them.
GW is the current premier 3DS flashcart, so of course that people are going to compare the Sky3DS to it. And the more we learn about the latter, the more limited it sounds compared with the GW in terms of features and function. So of course that people are going to criticize the Sky3DS when doing the comparison. I honestly fail to see how people are being "Gateway fanboys circlejerking about how awesome Gateway is/how awful anything else will be".

you would have to get rid of the update first... a system format is the first thing, that comes to mind, but you would have to backup your saves first
I heard a few times, you can also just delete the download folder of the update from the SD, don't know, if that's true though and which folder that would be
maybe someone else can shed some light on that? gamesquest1 for example?
