Hello. Can you guys help me with some questions?

(1) What program or tool should I use
so that I can crack in and "copy" the Japanese Text out of the game?

I am a programmer. Not a hacker. But I believe I may be able to do something. May be.

---------------------------------------------

(2) Do you guys have any recommended Good Japanese-English Translator engine for me?

It's alright if there are none Good Translator recommended.
I will just try to use multi-engine(Google, Bing, ..etc) to compare for the best meaning.

---------------------------------------------

(3) Did I understand correctly that THESE are all our works?
World Tour - Rank A Stages
A-1 ID09451
A-2 ID19535
A-3 ID29459
A-4 ID06641
A-5 ID16648
A-6 ID26702
A-EX ID02654

World Tour - Rank B Stages
B-1 ID21680
B-2 ID31682
B-3 ID08819
B-4 ID18896
B-5 ID28859
B-6 ID06033
B-EX ID12653

World Tour - Rank C Stages
C-1 ID01077
C-2 ID11013
C-3 ID21072
C-4 ID31053
C-5 ID08193
C-6 ID18277
C-EX ID22687

World Tour - Rank D Stages
D-1 ID13260
D-2 ID23274
D-3 ID00452
D-4 ID10388
D-5 ID20450
D-6 ID30458
D-EX ID32652

World Tour - Final Stages
EX-Final ID09767
---------------------------------------------

I will just try for Rank-B Stages but I can't guarantee the quality of my works yet.
I will need you guys to help correct any mistake because this is my VERY FIRST attempt to do something like this.
I do it just because I love "G Generation" and love to see someone trying to made English Version of this game.

(1) UMD Gen to open the ISO, CPK tools to extract the contents of the DATAUMD.CPK and the other tool that was linked on page 1 or 2 to re-compile the DATAUMD.CPK. Then use a hex editor of your choice with SHIFT-JIS encoding available to edit the code. Personally I use MadEdit.

(2) Google Translate is fine for short things. Attack names, items, brief descriptions, things of that nature. However sentences is where it has issues. Japanese is context sensitive and Google can't figure out the context so it comes out pretty rough.

(3) No. Those are merely the file ID's associated with each stage. We have yet to find the HELL FINAL stage.

Thanks a lot! CrashmanX

I already extracted DATAUMD.CPK out of ISO using UMD Gen now.

Right now I have some kind of CPK Tools Unpacking error..
It says something like "TOC Signature not found" when I try to extract DATAUMD.CPK..

Try using ggow_cpk_pack from Riku in the 1st page but did not worked so far.

PS. I use CPK Tools from this link

Hmm...
I'm hesitant to post this but being a fan of TB-SRPG myself, I am gonna ask away.

Offering help to translate the text. I'm one of the translators for type-0 psp. I've helped in translating the game in the later half of the said project (which was at 30%-ish) using translation tools. My experience is a little different than usual, in which I employ listening + online speech translator + pera2 online dictionary to assist me in translation effort. Due to my chinese background, I am able to read and understand few jp even without any tools. A little background to back up my claim but the most credit goes to the editors for optimizing the translation.

Like Izzul, english is not my primary language, seeing that we share the same country lolz. So, an editor will be needed to further optimize the translation.

Unfortunately, I will not be as active as I had but I will try to allocate some time for the translation.

So, If you guys don't mind my rather weird way of translation, I am happy to help and ready to quit any time if I somehow slow down the team's effort.

Great. I will just read a little of these few pages to see what I need to start. Good to know I can translate at my own pace.
I'll just need some time to adapt since I've only played the OG versions and fell in love with it since.

awesome, happy to have another translator join the group ^_^"

you are welcome to grab the saves I posted a while back, if you have no save file for this game.

the game has "Ranks" of stages you can play through...I believe about 6 per rank.

there is a little dialog at the start and during war break/over-breaks on each stage.

currently, everyone has broken up in groups to tackle each set of Rank stages (plus EX stages).

let us know what world tour rank you would like to start translating.

izzul95

been a bit busy myself, and I believe CrashmanX has been the same.

still have the goal for "World Tour - Rank A Stages" progress pictures and video by the end of the month.

how has progress been on your end ?

* your pictures on the front post are not viewable *

Breaktemp: Thanks.

Hmm..okay. I managed to get into the files mentioned and view the japanese text here and there. This is my first time using Mad-editor to translate stuff but I find it interesting. I got a simple question... can I simply replace the jp text with english in text mode? No point translating it if I ended up screwing up the structure in the process.

Oh...I will be tinkering around with C files for now until I get a proper guideline/ link on replacing the jp.

You'll need to be mindful of things like line breaks and nulls. (00)

You want to try and replace the existing Japanese as best as you can without going over, however if you can create more space by shifting things down and making sure the formatting is correct you should be able to do so.

I kinda get the importance of nulls from the basic guide posted by Ace_overclocked. I'm guessing creating more space by shifting things down is referring to the 0A lines but I don't quite understand what you meant by "formatting is correct".

Making sure you've got 0A and 00 and similar where they need to be. If you overwrite one and forget to put in one to take it's place (if it's needed) then when you go to test that line it could crash the game or it could create a metric tone of garbage.

Thank you for the explanation. Will try it later on.

Edit: Right, getting used to editing via madeditor. So, I am going to take up the er..C- stages to avoid clashes with others. Thanks. On another note, I read that repacking requires the files posted on page 1 by a kind person due to ID alignment issue. Is that all I need to check my translation upon repacking and replace the file extracted in UMDgen? I got some menu texts that I need to confirm in-game. Oh, thanks for the save files too.

Hmmm.. Look like I am the slowest newbie here...
Sorry you guys for my low skill :(

I tried google and downloading about 3-4 CPK Tools to extract the DATAUMD.CPK file. But NONE of them work...

But finally, at last I found CriPackedFileMaker .. (it the same with what izzul95 is used to extracts)
then I finally just extracted them now :D

But then...
There are 12,896 ID files .. Oh my God.. So much..
which I can open each one of it with MadEdit SHIFT-JIS encoding now.

I do not have much clues..
Do I understand correctly that If I open the file "ID09451" then I will find World Tour Rank A - Stage 1 for translation?

Yea..the stage list given by Izzul defines the file ID which has been discovered to have the stuffs for translation. From what I read, there should be more. With a hex editor, you will find the jp text in it scattered about. I got confused myself at first and fell asleep for a while lolz.

Now...I need a gundam maniac who can identify unit name... including warship/battleship. The wiki is useful but time consuming as reference.

thanks for sharing the helpful tips ^_^"

PiQue_MajorCooke

yeah, it is a lot of data...should take about a month to locate, sort, and translate a world tour rank stage.

* if you pace yourself *

continue to ask questions here, if you have problems/get stuck.

images and short videos help us all.

AdanK85

the wiki is helpful, but if you need a gundam maniac...I can fill that position.

you are working on world tour rank C...I will have to play though those stages again, but you are welcome to ask me about unit names and such.

oh and you are welcome to abbreviate/shorten names !!

Okay thanks. I will ask away. Weird that there's no PM function here or I just miss it.

For now, i'll need input on these. Ring any bell?
C-1 stage
  • Deraz fleet. Was criticized by a certain "royalty" (not sure his name yet) to have no mobile suits in the fleet and would like to see them sink.
  • A guy name green or something similar. Belongs to the enemy as far as I can tell.
  • Konpeitou Island
  • Musai ...used in one of the scattered text. Not sure what it is. <- confirmed by crashman
  • Doril or something. It's different from that Daryl Dodge.
  • Universe mothership 宇宙母艦. The name seriously sounds wrong. Faction that you can think of?
  • A special move by a certain character. Unsure who but the move sounds like long standing years of grudge. Currently translated this as Millenium grudge. Tell me if there's proper one.
  • トレミ <- is this tronium? Sounds like a off.
P/S: Thanks Crashman

[*spoiler] [*/spoiler] is how you set up spoiler tags on this board.
Without the *.

The Musai is a vessel from the Zeon forces. If you're unsure of a name check the Gundam Wikia. It usually has the Romanji, English, and Katakana (or Kanji) versions. Otherwise just post the Japanese version here and I'll figure it out.
