Super Mario Maker 2 lets you make your own worlds in the new World Maker Update

There's a major update coming to Super Mario Maker 2; the final update, to be exact. New in this soon-to-be-released patch is a World Maker, among other things. Shown off in a newly uploaded trailer is the Super Mario 2 Mushroom, which allows you to stand on and pick up enemies, just like you could in Super Mario Bros. 2 in the west. The Frog Suit is also a new-old powerup, allowing you to run on top of water and swim quickly, while the Power Balloon lets Mario float like a balloon through levels. Numerous other "wearable" powerups also bring in old abilities from previous Mario titles too. Bowser's Koopalings are also back as well.

The biggest feature of this update, however, is the World Maker. It'll allow you to create your own Mario Worlds, where you can connect multiple custom courses in their own little 2D overworld. You can combine 8 worlds and 40 courses together in this mode. The World Maker Update goes live soon, on April 22nd.

With this and the Best Buy "leak" about Super Mario 3D World coming to Switch, it makes me wonder if Nintendo will do a Direct soon to announce some of this stuff. Then it makes me wonder what they are holding back for (what would have been) E3 announcements.

Final update?

That makes me kinda sad. It hasn't even been a year since release. Still I like what I'm seeing. Glad i got that snes online controller to play this game with. :)

Hope there is more surprises for this, i had hope support would end by the time a new console comes. (Or least a new super mario bros game comes out.) :ninja:

jesus, talk about a blow out of new stuff...though I do wonder, will they remove the s from where is says extra game styles since they pulled back on adding more now leaving only 3d world as the only one? still a weird oddity

I look forward to watching ryukahr and pals puzzle these out. They make it all seem so much more fun than actually playing it would be.

A little unfortunate that there's still no replacement for the 100 Mario challenge, but eh.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
