I have OFW with 6.2 and EmuNAND with 6.1. Want to update EmuNAND to 6.2 with Choi and want to know if that would burn any fuses. I dont use AutoRCM. Just gonna load EmuNAND, go to Choi and update, would that be fine? Do i need to know/do something before that?

Is there someone who is still using 5.1.0? I was thinking about getting the sx 2.4 beta mainly because of the new sx installer and the fact that it ignores the required firmware for games. Since the handling of keys is different on firmware 6.x.x that wouldn't really help me running new releases right? I think it's time to update using choidujournx - is it worth it to turn auto rcm on so I could potentially downgrade to 5.1.0?

Normally I would just stay on 5.1.0 but I guess all the upcoming games won't support 5.1.0 anymore... What are your guys thoughts? I really struggle to decide what to do :P

Thanks for your time :)

EmuNAND doesn't burn fuses because to load into EmuNAND, you need to use SX Loader which bypasses the fuse check as of V1.2
Apart from upgraded firmware when else do efuses blow?
Fuses can also be burnt when you download the exFAT update online.

Yes it is totally worth using ChoiDujourNX to update your firmware without burning fuses. Its also the only application to update your system firmware if you are CDN banned so it is very useful indeed.

You can't maintain a clean NAND and your save data from a tainted NAND because the save data is tainted.
A system or game update? Because if its a system update, he will have to update his firmware. Since SX OS supports up to firmware 6.1, he can update to that using ChoiDujourNX preferably.
You won't be able to downgrade without RCM and if you do happen to downgrade then bypass the fuse check, you won't be able to put the console into sleep mode.
I don't have any experience with split .NSP files but have you considered USB installation? I used a build of Tinfoil that supported USB installation as well as Aluminum Foil on my PC to do it.

I cannot see USB Install on the 0.2.0 version of Tinfoil

When I try to run version 0.99 (dz.nro) I get an error (2239-0095) and have to power off, any advise?

So now that I'm back from my self-imposed exile, I've got a few questions regarding Switch modding;

1. The consensus seems to be the ReiNX is the best free CFW, while SX OS is the best all-around. I'm aware there's obviously a ban risk for modding your Switch AT ALL these days with either solution, but realistically speaking, what are the odds of a ban as long as you use the Switch normally without being stupid? (i.e. going online in legitimately owned games, using homebrew etc offline?)
2. Are there any REAL downsides to using ReiNX vs SX OS? I'm not really intending on pirating anything, I'm more interested in mods and homebrew.
3. I'd like to update my Switch to latest firmware, but I'm sitting at FW 4.1.0. I've read up on ChoiDuJourNX, as well as AutoRCM, and more or less understand the functions of both. Are there any downsides to going the AutoRCM approach, considering how much easier it is?
4. Haven't downloaded the exFAT update, although an answer to the above question would realistically solve that rather quickly. In the meantime, though, FAT32 is a plenty good format, correct?

Realistically I'll probably think of more. I've suddenly got a lot of time on my hands and would rather do this right the first time.

  1. Honestly Atmosphere has some really useful features not found in ReiNX such as preventing AutoRCM being removed during online system updates and faster boot times. But ReiNX gets the job just as well. Anyway, people have been banned left and right for pretty much everything except backing up the NAND before hacking the console, staying offline, and restoring that clean NAND prior to going online.
  2. SX OS has .XCI loading meaning you can drag-and-drop your .XCI files onto your SD card or even external HDD while ReiNX has you install the .XCI files with another homebrew application such as ZeroTwoXCI, dOPUS, or n1dus. SX OS also is currently the only CFW with EmuNAND support as well as featuring their own cheat engine although you can use cheats with all CFW if you use sys-netcheat
  3. The "downsides" of using AutoRCM just involve managing your Switch more carefully. For example, shutting down the Switch from Horizon (the Switch's OS) will cause it to reboot into RCM if AutoRCM is enabled. To properly shutdown a console with AutoRCM, you have to turn it off from RCM. Alternatively you can just keep the console in Sleep Mode. And with ChoiDujourNX, you get to enable exFAT on any firmware you feed it so it also acts as an exFAT patcher
  4. FAT32 is better than exFAT now as there are multiple ways to bypass the 4 GB limit on FAT32. Plus, exFAT has been notorious for corrupting the SD card whenever using homebrew applications while FAT32 will not corrupt your SD card in the slightest. If you don't mind risking corruption, exFAT is an option but FAT32 is better

Is it ok to switch out microSD cards while the system is in RCM mode? (eg from AutoRCM in hekate)

Or should I shut the system down completely from hekate when swapping microSD?

Better to shutdown from Hekate. Removing while in use would result in corruption.

How would you go about bypassing the 4gb limits?

Also if I've already updated to exfat via Choi how can I go back to fat32?

2 quick questions. Are custom themes working on 6.2??

Secondly. I've been trying to stay on 5.1.0 as long as i can since i haven't had any problems at all with this firmware. But it seems the new smash update requires 6.2 and tinfoil can't bypass it. So my question is if i upgrade to 6.2 via choidiour(i know i spelled it wrong lol) so i don't burn fuses. IF something happens i will still be able to use my 5.1.0 nand backup to restore correct???

Their website has plenty of resellers from various countries.

USB installation is the best way to install .NSP files regardless of size, exFAT or FAT32. Also updating with or without exFAT has no effect on the SD card; you can update with exFAT support on a FAT32 SD card.

  1. Not sure if themes are working on 6.2 or not but you can always ask in the Qcean Discord Server
  2. There is a patched version of the update that works on firmwares below 6.2

Does AutoRCM need to be turned on in hekate each time the system is shut down for real? (eg from inside hekate, not shutting down from Horizon which sends it into RCM mode when AutoRCM is turned on)

Not required. Once you enable RCM in hekate, it stays until you turn it off from hekate again.

Can someone pleaseee help me with emunand as i have NO idea how to properly install it after restoring. I've read a few tutorials and they are all different.

I would like to install emunand files on SD card, i have a proper full backup of rawnand.bin and boot0 and boot1.

However this most recent tutorial i read said to ONLY restore SYSNAND and not the boot0, boot1 if im installing Emunand.

Why is this? if i dont restore boot won't it leave traces behind of CFW? can someone please help a noob out as im dying to get emunand working and have been waiting for help for the last 2 weeks..

You typically only need to restore boot0/boot1 if the rawnand you are restoring is a different firmware than the firmware you are running before you restore it.

Thanks for writing back so fast man, much appreciated. So my backup is on 5.1 and my current firmware is 5.1

So i wont need to restore boot, right?
