Hey everyone.

I was reminiscing tonight about some of my favorite old websites from days long past.

As luck would have it, GBA Temp is still alive & well. I’m so happy to see this.

Anyway. I’m “Legend” or, at least, I was. I’ve changed my alias online many times over the years. It’s nice to meet all of you!

I hope none of you mind, but I think I’ll hang out around here for a while again. So much has changed!

It’s good to be back.

Thanks for the welcomes! :)

Welcome back! What consoles do you currently have?

Currently I’m all about that Sony & PC life. I’ve more or less sworn off recent Nintendo consoles, but I am intrigued by the Switch — especially given the recent announcement of Smash (port? New? Who knows!)

I just bought a new gaming PC and I have a PS4 + Vita (RIP).

i get so happpy to see when such old members come back!

how was it back in the days? where you from that era where gbatemp hosted roms?

What are roms? :P
Back in the days, it was... an interesting place. I was reading through some of my old posts last night. I tell ya, it's kind of embarrassing to see the way I used to communicate with people. I was very aggressive as a teenager, apparently!

I remember there being a lot of silliness in the "Testing" forum, which basically was a general off-topic area if I'm not mistaken. There were some really, really talented people who frequented the forum -- one of which I was looking for an update on. Ultimately, he's what brought me back here. His name was @.TakaM, but I can't find any recent traces of him!

I-I remember you!
My god, you're alive?

I sure am! A little worse for wear, but I'm still kicking! It's been a long, winding road.

This statement/sentiment should be preserved for posterity, to serve as a potential warning/advice for younger members. ;)

Also: Hi!

Hello! Yes, agreed. Apparently I used to use GBATemp as something of an outlet. I wasn't really allowed to curse anywhere, so I used a lot of curse words on here. I also often would start my responses/posts like the whole conversation was bothersome. I was a pretty bizarre kid but I'd like to think that the "real world" has deburred me, so to speak.

Welcome back! What have you done in your 10 year absence?

Man. I'll have to make a longwinded post about it all sometime. To be honest, it was a very boring 10 years in the grand scheme. Though I'd like to think I developed a lot, as a person!

Wow you actually haven't posted in literally 10 years. That's amazing!

Yeah, I wish there was some kind of a way for me to just... delete the old posts. Some of them are rather "cringey" as they say.

I wouldn't worry about it. 10 years is such a long time. If anyone tries to make fun of you with the old posts they'd only be making a fool of themselves to be honest.

Agreed! Although I guess I could have just... made a new account, if I was truly concerned about it all. :P

Meh, the past is the past. We all (most of us, hopefully?) learn, grow, and evolve based on life experience.

Real-talk, though... What have I missed in the last 10 years around here?

Gbatemp doing more legit stuff, game reviews, news, e3 attendence etc. Twitch channel as well now.

Still got the modding stuff going on, I guess you missed out on most of the wii, ds and 3ds stuff. Probably a good thing though as for a long time those parts of the forum were just awful.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
