Nintendo Labo announced

Nintendo has revealed the announcement they were teasing for today, and at 10 PM GMT, the Nintendo Labo was revealed to the public. Focusing on three key tenets of "make, play, and discover", the Nintendo Labo are "Toy-Cons" that consist of cardboard and can be crafted together to create things such as a little piano, house, fishing rod, and more. The Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are then placed within them, for interactivity. To start, there will be two kits, one that's a variety kit which includes a fishing rod, 2 cars, a house, a motorbike handlebar, and a piano. The second, is a "robotic backpack suit". The products will cost $69.99 or $79.99 respectively.

Both sets will release on April 20, 2018, and Nintendo will be holding hands-on events to demo the Nintendo Labo in New York City from Feb. 2-3, and in San Francisco from Mar. 2-4. If you're interested, you can register for that here. The Labo will require folding the cardboard in order to make it form into the object you want, by following the guidlines provided in the box. Some of the creations will also have minigames that utilize the Joy-Cons, where you use the rumbling from the controller in order to know when to reel in the fishing pole. Also shown was a piano, which plays music when the cardboard keys are pressed.

People pay 60 bucks for a game, then well over 40 for season passes, loot boxes and other microtransactions, and you bitch about 10 bucks? *oh lets not forget about 100 bucks special editions*

I'm intrigued by the concept. Can't say I'm not a little disappointed that $80 only gets you the robot game. $150 for both seems a little steep at the moment, but I guess we haven't seen the full extent of what each game offers.

Hey Nintendo, how's about you catch up with the other consoles first, including your own handhelds? The Switch still has no (official) web browser, no multimedia player, no YouTube client, no Netflix, pretty much no multimedia apps at all besides Niconico which is specific to Japan. You've had time since March. You've made a £279,99 tablet that doesn't do anything, that should be disconcerting.

I think this has a lot more promise than people think. Imagine making a Poultergust and playing Luigi's mansion. (though NOT required), or the master sword with Skyward sword (again.. Not required).

I thought this was crazy but after watching the trailer, i kinda want one. The pricing is questionable and i wonder what their solution for replacement parts will be. This is basically the kid solution to vr and ar that doesn’t even require a headset. It interesting but I probably won’t buy it.
This is honestly the most use of the technology in the switch since 1-2 switch which is a bummer.

Fun idea. As a kid, I would have absolutely loved this. $70 seems a bit high, but depending how extensive the software coming with this is, it could be reasonable imo

Now I really want another Luigi's mansion...

Already stated that they will have the plans online.. But really.. it's cardboard.. Duct tape will do unless you completely destroy it. And price isn't that bad when you consider that most people buy a 60 dollar game then a 40 dollar season pass.. or 100s of dollars in loot boxes just to feel better about themselves.

The software seems rather extensive in a way with the 3D instructions including rotation, and even showing HOW each of these builds work. How the joycons are doing what they are doing.

Sigh gimmicky isnt a valid complaint please stop using it to describe anything remotely new that isnt up to your expectations. This is cool and while expensive and probably not the most durable im sure i could look in most of the people on this site closets and say the same thing about most of the crap in there.

Honestly just imagine if someone said oh color tv thats just a gimmick and passed it up. Guy would look pretty stupid right now.

So lets just go with a pros/cons

Pro

Looks interesting
Simple repairs
Innovative
Fun

Con

Expensive
Low durability
Childish

Btw all of those things mentioned are basically what nintendo are known for

Don't forget the fact that it still has no Virtual Console service neither.
With all these stupid shit Nintendo's announcing, it's like they are begging for the Switch to get hacked so that the hackers code/port the apps that the actual user base wanted from day 1.
More so seeing how RetroArch on Switch is already in alpha stages.
