i'm watching this thread and still get no notifications at new responses... sorry it's been some time.
I appreciate all of your enthusiasm for a full translation but it's not something i'm keen on working on right now.
Don't get the wrong idea i have no problem with using generations text as reference, just not 1:1 copying it. that's my personal opinion, yours can differ.
Also Maximus is in the lead for XX, as i was already lacking interest for the UI patch.
Regarding the people offering help... thanks, but i get these all the time. There have been italian, french, korean and what not people approaching me and none of these "offers" worked out. People just don't understand the difference of thinking and talking about something and actually doing it. underestimating the required commitment necessary for projects like these. You won't be working on this for some weeks but rather many months. i wasted many hours trying to help those in vain. That's one reason why i'm ignoring three-ish sentence requests of this kind. Just an example:
"Hi. If it's true that Stories won't be released in the west I was thinking about gathering some friends to translate the game in XXX. Unfortunately we have no Japanese knowledge and basic computering skills, so we'd have to do it after you'd finish the English patch and with your tools if you'd be willing to share them. Needless to say we'd give every credit where credit is due. Please let me know, thanks."
Some casually thrown together team won't cut it, you need people with the necessary skillsets who can actually contribute with a strong determination and lots of free time and then someone with even more free time to coordinate the team.
As a side-note there were about 15-ish people applying for helping with proofreading for the stories patch, of which one made it past chapter 1 (3 finished chap 1 at least).
So yeah what i basically want to say: if you wan't to start a project, don't just think about it, do it! think heavily about what you can contribute, what people you're looking for and show them what you're bringing to the party, don't be that guy who just want's to lead a project. Don't be discouraged if you can't fill out a certain role and try to learn that role yourself. If you don't have a team yet, it shouldn't be an excuse for not working on it. Recruiting can take some time and some persuasion. If you're already giving up on this step you're probably lacking the endurance anyway. It took months before we found people able to help with the stories patch. Me and Max started looking for people in september and really only got the right people in january, but while looking for translators we were still working as much as we could at the time.
