Confused about when exactly to create my NNID for the first time on brand new N3DSXL. Should I do it on my 3DS *before* I follow the 3ds.guide or *after*. I've never had a Nintendo system that needed a NNID so I've never had one and would like to use the eShop legitimately. Finding conflicting info in researching, whether to put it on the sysNAND or emuNAND and can't seem to find it referenced in the guide.
The NNID can be created the first time you access the eShop. I don't think it matters if you do it before or after you install CFW. The NNID is your eShop account which is tied to the console, and which your purchases are saved to.

Do note that you run the risk of being banned from playing online games by installing CFW.

Really just looking to use CFW to run emulators for older Nintendo systems, otherwise use the 3DS legitimately. From what I've read, as long as I do this offline, then before using any game that uses online to run the game first offline then turn on online, that should limit the risk.

That's the theory, along with disabling the settings in SpotPass and Friends. Just wanted you to be aware.

This Reddit post seems to make it out that you can just take a HANS style romfs patch file, stick it in a certain folder, and instantly have it work with Luma's new Game Patching feature. Me and a friend have had trouble getting this to actually work, however, but have had luck with Luma's Game Patching when they were the raw files to be patched like with how Team If distributed FE Fates. Is there something we're missing about the process of turning the HANS romfs into a patch usable by Luma or is Luma simply not actually capable of working with such files?

- download freeshop.cia from this link https://notabug.org/arc13/freeShop/releases
- and what exactly is 11.XX.XX.XX? but I'd assume that you already have hack and no need to rehack it

-So on my empty SD card, I made a "cias" folder and put in the freeshop.cias but nothing showed up on my 2DS home screen.
-Do I have to install FBI to install the freeshop.cias?

Yes you need to install FBI first. See the steps here https://3ds.guide/finalizing-setup
Then after you installed FBI, proceed with installing freeshop

You can update games with freeShop. The icon that looks like a controller lists all your installed games, yellow exclamation mark means there is an update available. Tap that to install it.

Thanks, I'll just download free shop then, will I be able to play online? Or I'll get an error?

Edit: Just did it thanks!
