Hacking Can I install Rebug directly on a OFW 3.41 PS3?

I would recommend updating to OFW 3.55 then installing the CFW. Just for peace of mind and it's pretty easy to do.

You might be able to skip the step... but my gut feeling says it's safer to do Sony's official 3.55 first.

You're entirely wrong. They are based on newer than 3.55 but use the signature of the 3.55 hack. They are patched to continue to accept this signature on the newer firmwares. Beyond that they have nothing in common with 3.55 OFW/CFW. They use many similar patches but they usually need to be ported to the new firmware offsets.

no there BUILT using the latest firmwares but BASED on 3.55
read there release notes or look at the mfw bulder processes and you will see there based on 3.55
there are no 4.81 exploits so the firmwares are modified back using the 3m patchset and 3.55 patches

and there is no porting as this is all done on the ps3 for the ps3
its not as if its done on the xbox then ported to the ps3 is it!

it's irrelevant because you're overwriting the ROS or just writing to the other one, but whatever, if people think that 3.55 is going to make a difference or not, let them think that. i stand by my point, around 7MB of flash get overwritten on region 0 or 1 and devflash is simply formatted and reflashed.

this. it shouldn't make a difference if u update from 3.41 or even 1.00. it wouldn't hurt to update to 3.55 if ur afraid of that, but as I said, it shouldn't matter.

You should be wary that the lad in the gba ps3 update collection thread has failed to post a single md5 to verify any of the firmwares so you have no way to check you have the correct firmware or if it's downloaded correctly without becoming corrupt
I suggest not to link to that thread until he posts md5's

I checked the mediafire link. it works. plus, there's an md5.

edit: btw, 3.56 is sometimes hackable, but u still need a flasher for that.
