Won't I have to update the o3ds to the latest firmware to do the transfer? Also, thanks for replying. I am looking at the guide now... I've been out of the game too long.
Yes, but with a9lh that's no problem. Have a look at the guide and if anything sounds confusing, ask here and you'll probably get 5 responses within the hour :-)

Hello everybody, I have a question about 3DS system transfer. Is there any way that I can do the system transfer remotely? Say I have a friend that is far away from me, and willing to let me have his NNID transfered to my N3DS, can we do it remotely so I could have the one of four games that is needed for Waithax? Thanks a lot.
You can't do a system transfer but your friend can call Nintendo and ask them to transfer over the NNID. Just be wary that you are at the mercy of Nintendo - when it comes time to give the NNID back (by calling Nintendo and asking them to put it back on your friend's console) they might decide not to, and your friend might be stuck without it.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Okay, sounds good. Just for my peace of mind, a9lh would not be transferred to the N3ds in the process? Sorry if that's a dumb question.
Not a dumb question, but no it isn't. If the N3DS is on 11.0 on higher you transfer a DSiWare game with a hacked save (which gets transferred) which you use to downgrade the N3DS and then install a9lh. If the N3DS is on 10.7 or less you won't need the hacked O3DS to downgrade it to install a9lh. If you plug in the firmware into 3ds.guide/get-started it will tell you what you need to do, including all the instructions for the DSiWare downgrade if it's required.

Alright, I figured as much but its worth asking anyway. I am still doing the preliminary reading of the tutorial atm. Just to make sure, NTSC is the USA version, right?

Yes.
Also it would be unlikely you'd have a dev system as they cost a couple of hundred+ (much more than a retail system) and you'd need to be part of the Nintendo developer program to be able to order one

I'm having a bit of a problem here with the DSIWare downgrade. I am at the part where you inject the save through Godmode9, after I delete the contents of the FATImage, I go to the savedata folder to copy the savedata.bin. It won't let me paste it into the FATImage though, it says the file is too big. Help?

EDIT:Fixed by getting a recommended game. I was using TLOZ:4SAE.

A friend has a n3ds with Luma CFW. They report that they recently fell asleep while playing something, and it's possible that the n3ds was dropped while on, probably onto a carpeted floor or bed. Since then, when you try to turn on the system, the power light comes on and stays on, but both screens remain black and there is no audio. There is no way to turn it off other than holding the power button for several seconds.

If the microSD is removed, then when one tries to power on the system, it immediately powers off (presumably because it can't find the a9lh files or whatever).

Although it doesn't seem like the microSD is the problem, I tried reformatting the microSD using guiformat, and then restoring the files, but I had the same result. I also tried restoring from a known good backup of the microSD files using a different microSD card, but had no success.

It seems like it's probably some kind of hardware problem, but I don't know what. Can anyone recommend some next steps for diagnosis, or does anyone know of a service that could repair the system if it's a hardware problem? Of course, I don't want to send it to Nintendo for repairs since it would probably come back on latest OFW if at all, as well as have an enormous price.

Thanks!

I can't remember what the solution is but this has happened before. If I see it I'll link it here!

I think it was this thread, right? https://gbatemp.net/threads/a9lh-luma-5-2-error-sd-card-formatted.452737/

I have since tried replacing the files with those in the guide here: https://3ds.guide/9.2.0-ctrtransfer , but haven't been able to boot into Decrypt9 or anything else. I also located a large cache of backups of the microSD from various points. I have extensive, but not well-labelled backups, and testing with them has also yielded no progress.

Are these symptoms (completely black screens and only blue light, unable to boot into anything) consistent with a9lh not being able to find what it needs? Are they consistent with some kind of hardware problem, for instance with the screens? Or, is it something else entirely? Does anyone have any advice about this?

Hi all - I have a simple question. I have made a backup of my sysNAND at 4.3 and 8.x using GateWay-menu, then upgraded sysNAND to 11.2-35. I want to restore my sysNAND from the backup now, but can't find a way to get into the GateWay menu to select 'restore form backup'. How do I restore my sysNAND from the backups?

You can either get a hardmod or do a DSiWare downgrade. If you own one of the primary DSiWare exploit games you can do it with one console and waithax, otherwise you need a second, already hacked console. You should follow 3ds.guide/get-started, and if later you want to use your Gateway then follow https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/
If you do a DSiWare downgrade, you have two options. 1. is just follow the guide and install a9lh, then optionally follow the second link to restore use of your Gateway card. This has the advantage that you don't lose any of your data, and you get a9lh, the best hack available today. Number 2 is that as soon as you have the exploited DSiWare game on your console, to restore the 8.x backup and keep doing what you were doing. This has two disadvantages, first that you will lose data from between when you made the backup and now, and you are remaining on an inferior hack. Note that if you had installed a9lh before instead of using whatever exploit you were using to get into Gateway mode, updating sysNAND wouldn't have been a problem.

OK, I have an issue. It's so annoying I created an account. (I have been a lurker for a while)
The issue is:
Every time I try to open games installed via FBI or freeshop. The error "an error has occurred" shows up.

This does not happen on smaller games like shovel knight, Tetris Axis or Flipnote Studio.
I have tried SSB and Mario Maker, and those don't work, giving me the error.

I can't find any other people having this problem online.

If I open the games in FBI it says "SD Card was removed" instead

Please help me.

EDIT: I should probably state what I use; I am using MenuHax and ReiNAND

1)Maybe its a faulty SD Card
2)It might be a CFW problem, try switching to Luma

A9LH+Luma is undetectable by Nintendo, right? What I mean is, that there's no way to for Nintendo tell whether a console has been modded or not if you access online services with said console?

I believe the above statement to be true already, but some jackass in Youtube claims that his friend got banned for simply accessing e-shop with modded console and won't budge, and such is spreading misinformation to people who are wondering about Homebrew in general and scaring them off from doing so, because now they all think it's guaranteed you will eventually get banned.

I mean I'm pretty sure he's retarded or his story is only partial seeing as there's that thread from just few days ago where someone sent his console to Nintendo to be repaired, but had A9LH in it. I didn't hear him getting him banned.. if you literally show Nintendo you've modded and they don't ban you ..

You dun goofed ..

When you still were on 4.3 or 8.x you could've very easily installed A9LH+Luma then setup Gateway payload to work on boot if you so wished (that's what I did, was on 9.0 Gateway setup) .. But once you've updated to 11.2 without installing A9LH there's no way to restore CFW capabilities unless with hardmod or DSiWare Downgrade as stated by Quantumcat.

For future reference you might want to remember that generally speaking, updating the system firmware is something you DONT want to do.

I don't really understand what was your thought process when you went into this and what you intended to do though? Why did you upgrade your sysNAND? Gateway works with emuNAND does it not? You could've just updated while within emuNAND. Then your sysNAND would've been 8.x and emuNAND 11.2 and you could've played Pokemon or whatever it is that you wanted to update for.

I now have switched to Luma. I should probably switch to A9HL, after seeing your signature, but never understood how.

The 3DS Guide tells you how. A quote from the guide:
  • If you have already hacked your 3DS before to get an EmuNAND setup, and would like to move the contents of your previous EmuNAND to your new SysNAND CFW, you should follow all instructions and restore your existing EmuNAND when prompted once you reach Installing arm9loaderhax.
So .. Follow the guide as if you were installing it on a stock 3DS with no CFW installed, and the steps later on will tell you how to transfer existing setup over, if wanted.
