Hey guys, quick question.
I have a old 3DS XL with RxTools installed on it. sysnand is 9.2.0 and emunand is on RX 11.0.0.0 -3 or smth like that.
I didnt touch my 3DS for almost 1 year. so im not up to date with the newest current CFW and stuff like that.
My question is just if its possible to play pokemon sun and moon with my current setup or do i need to install something new or do i need to update anything?

(and yeah i dont plan to play online, dont worry haha XD)

Hey guys, is there a new system update out? I'm still running reiNand on a US 10.x N3DS with a9LH. Could someone direct me to how I can update to whatever the latest safe firmware as well as updating from reiNand to Luma? Thank you!

1)What do you mean by back up? if you mean save files, then yes.
CFW is way better then gateway btw, gateway is not needed when you run thing sucessfully.
Though, i'm a bit worried by the fact you are on 11.0 (which makes it harder to downgrade. Did you have cfw already or no?
Sorry that wasn't clear.
I have bought a brand new 3DS, doesn't have custom firmware and by backup I mean games.

Glad to know Gateway isn't needed for full feature set.
I think I will borrow a 3ds and do the DSiware downgrade.

Ok so I'm going to do the cardinal sin in temp posting and ask a very noobish (don't assume I didn't search) type question.

Some of you may know me from the Wii U forums. I've been actively engaged in that scene since the beginning. I know that if you were to go there now and try to figure out what type of exploits are available and what homebrew apps are the best right now you'd be very confused. Especially since IOSU exploit was released. People come down hard on noobies asking questions that can be found in stickies and in searches. I've been guilty of it in the past. In the last few years I've tried really hard to give solid advice to every question asked. It's madness lately and hard to sort through everything.

Anyway, I've been away from the 3ds scene for quite some time. Long time lurker never involved really. Back when I was playing with it I could only load up things with Gateway. Now it looks like that may be useless. I've been reading for a few months trying to get a handle on A9HL (or whatever) and .cia (my games are .3ds and on a micro sd inside the gateway).

Since this is a noob thread and I didn't want to start a new thread I felt this may be the best place to ask.

How do I bring this thing up to speed?

Original 3ds
firmware 9. something. It was the thing to have at the time
Gateway 3ds card
Sky3ds+ card

Should be possible to play.
Though, change your CFW, Rxtools is now outdated and may break in future updates.

Honestly recommends you do upgate to a9lh

Can someone explain what "tickets" are for the 3DS? What purpose do they use?
For contextual reference; I'm planing on cleaning up any remnants of previously installed .CIAs. (Or at least if I think there are any.)

Tickets allow you to redownload the game from the eShop. If it's something you plan to redownload, don't delete the ticket.

So are they only generated specifically when I download a software from the eShop itself? Or when a .CIA is installed overall? Considering I have plenty installed from that ISO site...

Technically, it whenver you install a game. but tickets from cia are are not original, thus eshop knows (hence why people install dlc via cia, it get removed when they go to eshop)

I purchased a N3DS XL on ebay with a9lh already installed. There is also an emuNAND installed.

So... now that the sysNAND can be updated without problems, what purpose does the emuNAND have?
For use with GATEWAY, sure. or perhaps having a separate user interface. Anything else??

What about doing a DSiWare system transfer? Can you do that with an emuNAND so that your sysNAND stays intact on the source?

Can anyone give me a quick recap of the 3DS hacking scene?
I'm getting a 3DS soon and have spent a couple of days browsing the forums but it seems more complicated than the DS scene.
Flashcards (Gateway, Sky), CFW, emuNAND, a9lh, etc?

I was pretty active during the DS scene (I forgot the name and email of my previous account)

I had the same question a few days ago.
Follow the guide given above to update your 3DS to A9LH and Luma3DS. You can then update your system whenever a new update comes out without issue.
There are lots of other things you can do with homebrew and system tweaks.
CIAs will install games to your system on the "dashboard", as though you bought the game on the eshop. This will also let you play games online, I believe.
In my case, I have an 8 gb regular SD card with emuNAND and 64 GB microSD with my Gateway card and filled with games.
So I followed a tutorial here so I could boot straight into the GATEWAY emuNAND and play games off my gateway card as usual.
This saves me the trouble of converting all my games and their saves to CIA and gives me the cheat engine from GATEWAY that is apparently still the best out there.
For games you may want to play online, do CIA. Converting to CIA is not fast. There are a few steps between your computer and 3DS. (I would be inclined to get them from someone else who already did all the work.)
