I've tried to start the CFW guide from plailect but I have some questions.
My system version is 9.5.0-23E.

From what I can see on the guide I have to choose Homebrew Launcher (No Browser) method, because I'm between 9.3.0 and 10.6.0. Also No Browser because my version is -23.
Is this correct? I don't understand why the no browser, because I think I've got the browser.

If I continue it says that I have to choose one of the methods to do this. Since I've got Ocarina of Time I'll choose the oot3dhax. What I don't get is if the game is enough or do I need the powersaves?
Also near the bottom of the page it says "If you are above the version 9.2.0, continue to 9.2.0 Downgrade". I do have to downgrade first correct?

And this is where I got confused. So it says to download this and that, but then the 1st step is Boot into the Homebrew Launcher. Is this achievable only with the sd card or do I need the game cartridge (same question as before, is the game enought or I need powersaves also)?

For now I think is all :)

Thanks
1) OoThax is easiest to answer. Technically, powersave is not needed, as OoT hax needs is to rewrite to save file of OoT. However, to rewrite the save, you need either powersave or homebrew (which can extract and inject save files). Most people use powersave since they have no access to homebrew.
2) To my knowledge, you can use browserhax. at some point after firmware 9.2 (i think 9.6?), browser did a firmware check to see if it was latest firmware before it could be used, but there was a bypass to that using system date. So you could be fine with browserhax.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Can backups be played with custom firmware?
or is it recommended to buy a Gateway?

I'm on 11.0.0-33E and want to be able to run backups.
What do you mean by back up? if you mean save files, then yes.
CFW is way better then gateway btw, gateway is not needed when you run thing sucessfully.
Though, i'm a bit worried by the fact you are on 11.0 (which makes it harder to downgrade. Did you have cfw already or no?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

is there a way to make my console recognize the games on my SD card after a format? and to get back my friend list? Luma 3DS obviously.
It possible if you done things correct.
did you have a9lh or not?
for console to recongnize your games and friend list is something down with the nand. If you backed up the right nand it should.

For games that came with download codes or simply digital titles bought from the eshop, while im aware save data is rather a possible but time consuming process, is it possible to "dump" those games as back ups? i cant seem to always find the actual files when im copying data from an sd card to another even though i highlight every folder each time

Coping raw file from SD card is not how you back up save data of games.

You need to extract the save data using either powersave or homebrew app such as svdt or jksm.

You can already, as long as you have homebrew.
Homebrew to export save data.
PkHex to edit.
Umm, have you tested it a lot, yes?
Sorry if I'm doubtful, but before asking here I've got a lot of conflicting answers :(

I got 2 units. The "backup" unit I have is my 2ds, with Steelhax as entrypoint & FW 11.0.0-33U.
EDIT: I think what I meant is if it is possible to edit saves from your Physical S/M cart on HomeBrew at 11.0? And not just digital...

Don't need to test ask make no sense otherwise.
physical and digital makes no difference. Both homebrew app SVDT and JKSM both extract save files from cart or digital the same. Save files are the same (that how people transfer save data between carts and digitials)

what does conflicting reports say?

Ok where do I start...
Umm, it's true right you can use SVDT or JKSM to extract & edit Sun/Moon saves the same way we do to XY & ORAS?

Also, others do say S/M now has PASLR.
EDIT: I'll tell you later after this about this "conflicting reports" I received.

derp, I been out of hacking scene too long I guess.
Ignore my answer, completely wrong since I didn't know about new secruity "PASLR"

I know CFW disables it but not homebrew.

...so, it won't work even on 11.0 then? :(
So does it mean I'm forced to install CFW to be able to edit S/M saves?

(And also, was it just me that this site got a brief slowdown?)

Not you on site problem.

Well, i mean don't take my word for it for granted as I just learned about PASLR from you.

From my quick research (from said thread you were poster off I guess?), seems like it is possible to extract save file?
What I think I know from PASLR:
1) More for Homebrew entry point exploit
2) Entrypoints such as Steelhax was disable due to PASLR. IDK if it is still disabled
3) Activated on a few games starting in FW 11.1 and will be on future games.

So with my understand, you should be able to edit sun/moon files. ONLY if you have HB access.

Yeah like I said, I have Homebrew on both on my units--> the main one (which is on 11.1, with Steelhax, and still holding & blocking the update via ctr-httpwn), and the "backup" one (on 11.0, has Steelhax too).
On my main unit, I have to press B to make Steelhax successful BTW.

EDIT: And also, I thought somebody said Ninty put PASLR to S/M? But can you still edit save filesfrom it using only HB?

I did a dsiware downgrade on a dummy NNID, restored source's 3ds NAND and formatted target 3ds with a different NNID. I have a nand and sd backup from that Fieldrunners NAND, anyway to use it on another downgrade?

Hmm, well I really hope S/M save editing will be possible in 11.0 (or above) using only homebrew.
Because otherwise I'll be forced to lose another 2000+ Pesos ($45+) to get my 2ds hardmodded & CFW'd just so I can edit saves for future games (S/M included).

Hi Guys, I'm using n3DS XL 10.2.0-28U and my main target is to just play .CIA Roms on my 3ds. So to start off I've tried to get in Browserhax but to no avail. I've tried doing the change DNS and the reboot and enter the browser as fast as you can way but still can't access the link.

So I was wondering if this solution is even valid for my firmware? Any suggestions on other homebrew alternatives?

1) CIA and roms are 2 different things. .cia are files to install the game to 3ds like eshop. roms from .3dsx file go on flashcart
2) What you want is CFW. To set up

I've gone through plailects arm9lh guide, and have now finished all steps successfully, and now have luma/arm9lh running on my n3ds. Can I now use the system settings to update the firmware to the newest release, in order to regain access to the eshop, online features, etc?

thanks in advance
